Blog menu
-
My blog posts are currently my static front page. This is what I want but when visiting another page (e.g. About) and then using the menu to direct back to ‘Blog’ this doesn’t take you back to the posts it takes you to the original unedited blog page.
How do I enable the Blog menu button to direct you back to blog posts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I was literally struggling with this same problem to the point I was just going to delete the darn blog link from the menu altogether. I saw your question on the forum as I was looking for help and thought “yes, I’m not the only person that can’t figure this out”. I don’t like to give up so I played around with the sites editing and “bam” I found a way. Ok, I’m going to explain the steps I took the best way that I can because I know how frustrating this bump in the road was for me and how liberating it felt to finally get my site to function the way that I wanted it to.
1) Click on the “My Site” tab which is located on the upper left hand corner of the screen.
2) Click on the sub-title word “Pages” (not the add button) located on the sidebar under the “Publish” title. On the right hand side of the screen you will see a list of your published pages which is also your menu links on your site.
3) Locate your “Blog” page link and click on the “3 dots” that are located on the far right hand side of the screen.
4) On the pop-up menu, select “Set As Homepage” option.**Notice the attached “Blog Posts” page link is now detached from the “Blog” page link and there is now an inactive button saying “Not Used” next to the word “Blog Posts”.
5) Locate the New “Not Used – Blog Posts” page link and click on the “3 dots” that are located on the far right hand side of the screen.
6) On the pop-up menu, select “Set As Homepage” option.**The “Blog” page and the “Blog Posts” page will now become one page called “Blog” with a subtitle saying “Recent Posts”. View your site’s page and try out the “Blog” menu option to see if it worked for you as it did for me. Let me know if this has helped you, Good Luck!

Hi mrschauntaes2cents and mrsmakerblog!
It sounds like you may have an extra ‘blog’ page in the mix that is getting in the way :)
If you’d like your blog posts on the home page of your site, you don’t need an page named ‘blog’ – WordPress will do that for you, automatically :)
To make the link in the menu point to the right place, you can click on My Site > Menus to edit your menu.
Once there, you should see a list of the items currently in your site’s menu. Click on the pencil beside your ‘Blog’ link.
Now you are editing that menu link! Select ‘Page’ and then ‘Home (site)’ to point that link to the home page of your site.
Save the menu.
Lastly, click on My Site > Customize (next to Themes) and use the Static Front Page section to make sure it’s set for your home page to display your latest posts.
If, on the other hand, you want a separate home page, and to have your blog posts on a secondary page, use the Static Front Page settings to choose the two pages you want to use.
Then you can use menu settings to point a link to the sites home page as described above, with a second link to the ‘Blog’ page.
Let me know if you have any questions or run into trouble!

Hey Chad1008,
Thanks for your resolution but It wasn’t a duplicate ‘blog’ page, it was the issue of not being able to link the ‘blog’ menu button on the site’s page to the actual blog.
Mrsmakerblog and I continued to get an unedited (generic) blog page when we clicked on the ‘blog’ button in the menu section on our site and when I performed those steps that I listed above it fixed the issue, well at least for me. I haven’t heard from mrsmakerblog as of yet to see if it worked for her or not.

Hey mrschauntaes2cents!
Got it :) The menu settings I described will let you control where the ‘Blog’ link in your menu points – either to a secondary posts page if you’ve set one up, or to the front page of your site if that’s where your posts are :)

Hi @kanpurfoodies! Are you having a similar issue to the one that @mrschauntaes2cents and @mrsmakerblog? A little more detail will help us sort out the issue more effectively :)
If you have a different problem – not that your blog link in your menu loads the wrong page, could you open a new thread for your question to keep it separate? Thanks!

Chad1008 – I am having a similar issue, I think. I am using the Shoreditch theme, and I have tried a couple of other themes. WordPress has not given me an automatic Blog Page in the Menu. All I have in my menu at the top says HOME. I want my homepage to be different than my Blog post page.
I have tried both ways explained above to customize my site and get a Blog Menu Tab/Page, but nothing seems to work. I am not sure what to do at this point. I have tried other themes because I saw another post somewhere that said something about WordPress not allowing some themes to have the Blog Post Page/Tab at the top. I am not sure if I read that correctly, but that is the way it made it sound. What else can I try?
I have another WordPress page and never had this issue before and I started that one back in Sept/Oct of this year. I never had to work on the menu for a Blog Post Page in the menu at the top, it was just always there. When I started this one I used the exact same theme, but it did not look the same at all.

Hey ashgask91
It does sound like you’re having a similar issue, yes! I actually chimed in on your https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wanting-several-pages-at-the-top-eg-blog-contact-etc?replies=5#post-2804330 as well.
Try the following:
1. Create a new page named Blog. Leave the content of the page blank, all it needs is a title.
2. Open My Site > Customize > Static Front page
3. Set the Posts Page option your newly published Blog page
4. Save & Publish
5. Now click on My Site > Menus
6. Use the + icons to the right to add new menu item. You want to
choose Page for the new item, then choose Blog.Let us know how it goes!

Hi. Your request is unrelated to the present topic. Please start a new topic, here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1. And when you do so, please provide a link to the site you are referring to.

Hi @mrschauntaes2cents,
I tried your suggestion and it worked for me! It was driving me nuts that I could connect my blog posts to the Blog page. Thank you so much!! -

It looks like your menu is working properly now. Has the issue has been resolved?
