Blog Migration
-
Hi. I am trying to migrate my blog from Ghost to WordPress. I know that it isn’t really supported but I found a blog article (http://ahmed.amayem.com/moving-from-ghost-to-wordpress-step-by-step/) with a how-to and thought I would give it a try. It didn’t work for me and I was wondering if there is any other way to do the migration that doesn’t involve moving 300 blog posts one by one. Any help would be appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi rfvenuetestblog
It looks like those instructions are for a self hosted WordPress installation.

Scratch that … looks like I was mistaken. I found this article that might be of help – https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

Thanks g471n for you quick input.
When I first tried the migration it was telling me that my file was not a proper WXR file. I started over and it told me that the import was successful but nothing was imported. Both of those times I used the importer section in the admin menu. This time I tried the import from the settings (as mentioned in the article g471n linked) and it says “There does not appear to be any authors in your WordPress import file.”

I found this forum thread that might help you – https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/import-error-there-does-not-appear-to-be-any-authors-in-your-wordpress-import-file?replies=4#post-2695336

Thanks. I am wondering if that is my problem since the Ghost JSON to WordPress XML converter that I used is from 2015. I don’t know how to fix that though, I would assume that it is in the coding and I don’t know anything about writing code.

Yes, as far as I can tell I am using the latest version.
I don’t know if this makes sense but I am wondering if because the converter is from 2015 maybe it is just running a find and replace script in the code and so it is essentially converting it into an older version of the WordPress XML.

I just realized that when it said it had imported things but I wasn’t seeing any posts it was importing tags.

This post is referring to a self hosted WordPress installation but there might be some useful info https://timstephenson.me.uk/migrating-from-ghost-to-wordpress/

I found that same article and tried that method too but I couldn’t get that to work either.

Hi folks, we’d be happy to try a few things on our end to make it work. @rfvenuetestblog, I’ll email to get your export file.
Thanks for your help here, @g471n!
