Blog mixed up with stranger's blog!

  • Unknown's avatar

    My blog name has suddenly been switched to someone else’s name, and her profile appears instead of mine, as well as her theme. My posts are there, but they lead to error pages.
    I don’t get the sense the other person did this intentionally (am trying to reach out to her). It appears most likely this is a WordPress hiccup. But how does it get fixed, and when??
    What do I do????

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Don’t do anything – don’t delete anything – don’t delete the blog

    I have flagged this for the staff to help

    Please be patient – the staff are a bit backed up and work requests in the older ones first

    Actually, I mucked around, and went into settings and changed the name of my blog back to its real name, and the other person’s site disappeared again. But not sure if that totally and permanently fixes the problem. How could my blogs name switch sudden like that??

  • Unknown's avatar

    Changing the title of http://judeberman.wordpress.com/ – should just change the title ( Dashboard >> Settings >> general ) – should have no other effect than to change the title

  • Unknown's avatar

    No! In fact, it change the theme back to my theme and got rid of the other person’s profile and resurrected all my dashboard, etc!! I should have taken screen shots before… no one will probably believe me (!)

  • Unknown's avatar

    I believe you! I’m having the exact same problem right now and I have no idea how to fix it!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hillary, I won’t say I’m glad to hear I have/had company in this(!)
    My blog is still back to normal after going into the settings and manually changing the blog title back to my own. Did you try that?

    @judeberman-

    Hi there,

    I’m not sure what you mean. Currently looking at judeberman.wordpress.com I’m not seeing any site name changes. I don’t see any theme changes either on that site.

    Can you give me the site name of the previous site before you changed it? Please provide me the exact URL with wordpress.com at the end of it.

    @hillarynguyendon

    I’m not seeing a site name change on your blog either. I only see an email address change.

    Can you please confirm the site name before and after the change? Please provide me the exact URL with wordpress.com at the end of it as well.

    Thank you!

    Hi Grace,

    You are not seeing changes now because I was able to fix it. As I wrote above, I changed the blog name in settings (even though as @auxclass said, that should not have had the effect)

    My blog is http://judeberman.wordpress.com/

    However, last night, it suddenly became this–
    http://forthesomedaybook.wordpress.com

    @judeberman-

    Please note that if a site name were changed I would be able to see that in your blog’s history. As staff we have access to see these type of changes and looking into the history of both sites I do not see a site change. When a site change is made there are multiple warnings put in place before you do.

    Did you follow the instructions here for a full on site name change?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

    Grace, I think you completely do not understand what happened. Unfortunately I did not have the presence of mind to take a screen shot. However, I called my webmaster (for my website) and she saw it. I am not imagining what occurred!!

    I did not follow any instructions for name change.

    I simply went as usual to my blog and found that the name was now the “Someday Book” name, and the theme was that person’s theme. As was her profile, not my profile. My posts still appeared, but when I clicked on a post, I was taken into her site. I could access my dashboard from the main page, but could not access it as soon as I went into her site (such as by clicking on any post).

    Sounds like you have never encountered this before????

  • Unknown's avatar

    I see. If you went to your Settings, I believe it was just a site title change, not the actual URL. You’d have to go to My Blogs to do a full on site URL change, which is not in Settings.

    So, besides that, you mentioned:

    I simply went as usual to my blog and found that the name was now the “Someday Book” name, and the theme was that person’s theme. As was her profile, not my profile. My posts still appeared, but when I clicked on a post, I was taken into her site.

    To be honest, I am very curious about this because I haven’t heard of this before. So I’m assuming you changed the theme as well? Weirdly, I’m not seeing any theme changes on your site either. Can you show you me how you changed the theme? As for the profile, where was that?

    Also, do you have any connection to that site?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Right, I just changed the site title back to my own title.

    The amazing thing is that all I had to do (as it turned out) was to switch that title back to my own, and everything else also right itself–my theme returned, the woman’s profile disappeared. etc.

    The woman’s profile was sitting in the right hand side, where my blog roll normally is. (the blog roll had disappeared; however, my archive list was there). In addition, I had other aspects of the woman’s theme, including the map of tag words (or whatever you call that).

    No, this was a total stranger! No connection with her site whatsoever. I did leave her comments, and so we emailed this morning. By that time it was all fixed, so she never saw it. But she was very friendly, and it was clear to me she had no role in making any of this happen.

    I see! This is strange – unfortunately I’m not seeing any changes in your blog or the other blog’s history. If this happens again and you please leave the site as is and report it to me?

    I will take a look and see what happened.

    Thank you!

    And I thought that a person that left one comment on my site showing up as a user when I examined my export file was strange – Oh well
