Blog moved to WordPress… What happened??
-
Hi, I’m totally confused and that doesn’t happen very easily…
Here is what happened:
I registered a free hosting account at 000webhost.com, built a WP blog which was easy enough. The blog was assigned the url: kohtao.web44.net. So far so good.
Now it gets wired:
Creating another WP blog for for a client on IX, a completely different server, i needed the API key for Akismet so i logged in to wordpress.com to get the key. My Account -> Edit Account…. and I’m in the dashbord of my web44.net blog instead of my WordPress.com Dashboard. Clearing all caches didn’t help… i cant get back to my WP.com dashboard.
Not that i’m worried about the API key, i just copied it from my other blog, but what the heck is going on??? I never declared or assigned this kohtao.web44.net blog to wordpress.org, why is is it syndicated? married? Siamese twins? Isn’t semantic web going a mile too far here? Please enlighten me here! I’ve got no idea what happened here? Is 000webhost a back door to WordPress.com? How does that work? Can i offer this to my clients? Would be more than cool…
Now it even gets weirder by the minute:
I initially tried to send this to wp-support and got this error message: We only provide support for WordPress.com blogs here. Please go to the WordPress.org Support Forum for further help….. first my blog gets transfered to wordpress and than this… -
I’m a bit confused, but it seems like you created a blog at WordPress.com to get your API key. Well, that means you have a blog here at WordPress.com.
WordPress.com is a blog host provider, just like blogger.com/blogspot, etc. It uses WordPress.org software, but it is a blog host provider.
Honestly, I wouldn’t trust any web site with a name like that. It just sounds like a scam to me. Maybe you purchased a site from 000webhost and they just gave you a free blog with a redirect from your domain name?

Your blog isn’t transferred here. There was a thread a couple of days ago on the API key being used for Akismet spam and for the stats info. IIRC, you should see both your self-hosted blog and your wordpress.com blog in your dashboard.
Check out this FAQ http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/10/19/api-key/ and this one http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/19/akismet-a-wordpresscom-blog-and-the-api-key/

@samiotis – I have one self-hosted blog using wp software and the wp.com API for Akismet and stats. I also have a few wordpress.com blogs. All those blogs use the same API. I have to sign into wp.com and then my self-hosted blog to access the API features on my self-hosted blog’s dashboard. And when I am signed into wp.com I see all of my blogs, including the self-hosted one, on my drop-down menu from any of my .com blogs’ dashboards.
The .com blogs do not show up on my self-hosted dashboard.
I don’t know if that helps, but I’m not terribly clear what your question is. Blame me, not yourself, for that.

Thanks for the input. I’m still a bit confused. I think it has to do with the stats. I have used my API key on several other akismet on other blogs and none of them showed up in my wp.com account. this was the first time i had wp-stats plugin enabled just to check it out. when i came back to wp.com i only can log into my web44 account… And yes, as i stated above it’s a free server account that i was testing. Can’t write serious articles about something without testing first. :-)
Thanks again for looking into it and for your time.
