My blog is at http://jamaal.wordpress.com now – if I point it to http://www.jamaal.co.za – will I suffer in any way? I mean will my blog still be seen as a BLOG?

Yes, you can do that and, no, it will not suffer. What occurs is that one URL works like normal and the other one will redirect to the first one. For example:

    http://www.jamaal.co.za/ will stay as http://www.jamaal.co.za/
If someone where to type in http://jamaal.wordpress.com/ into their browser, they would wind up with http://www.jamaal.co.za/ in their browser.

It’s called domain mapping. There’s a faq on the subject on the faq blog if you want to read it over. I’d give you a link but I’m on a dumb terminal right now and can’t open a new window.
