  I am trying to set a blog (www.plannd.wordpress.com), it says it is taken. However, when I visit the current page it says it has been deleted by the creators. Can I get the name I want?

  Hi,

  Regarding URL/address recycling, WordPress.com says that,

  Addresses (URLs) for blogs that have been deleted by the owner will remain deleted. We cannot, under any circumstances, allow someone to take over the address of a blog that was owned and deleted by its original/previous owner.

  You may try to register a different name close to your desired one.

  I read through the document about recycling blog names and understand the reasoning. However, it is very frustrating when you spend over an hour just to find an available name.

  All I wanted to do was hit “like” on a friend’s blog but I have to register first. Pretty much every name I came up with was marked deleted or taken. Even more frustrating was the fact that most of the “taken” blogs had only 1 or 2 posting from over 5 years ago and some of then were 10 years old without any new postings.

  Why can’t WordPress contact those have haven’t posted to their web page in over 3 years and warn them that if the page stays inactive that it will be taken down and made available for someone else.
