Blog Name Cannot Be Changed; One Blog Name is Null In Dashboard

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog consists of three individual blogs. Under ‘My Blogs’, one blog does not have a name, i.e. Blog Name is null. When I create this blog, I use long name with foreign characters. I suspect this may cause the blog name to be truncated to null.

Then I find that the blog name cannot be changed. It is always the name when the blog is created. Changing the ‘Settings->General->Site Title’ does not change the blog name. It only change the title in the display page. This is true for any blog. I search older posts on how to change blog name but seems no definite answer. I am curious how to change the blog name (not blog title) in the dash board.

Other things seem to work fine. It is awkward that there is no blog name to click to choose the blog in the dash board. My specific problem is that the blog does not have a name, i.e. the ‘Blog Name’ column is empty.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

So it sounds like you’d like to change the blog address, is that correct? If so, these instructions show you how to do that:

If this is where you’re running into problems, I do apologize! Just let me know!

Zandy, that’s the way I read it, but they are unable to. Apparently the name doesn’t appear since it was created in a foreign language set.

When I create this blog, I use long name with foreign characters.

Since they can’t see it, they can’t select it to change it.

I’ve seen the same thing here on the boards several times, where the User ID is not displayed — it just appears as blank spaces.

    Zandy,

I am not trying to change the blog address. I am trying to change the blog name in the dash board which appears as null, i.e. nothing (not even space characters). The blog name entry is not empty when the blog is created. But it shows up empty blog name in dashboard after creation.

Strange thing happens. On the following day of blog creation, The blog name reappears when I go to ‘My Blogs’ and it is the exact wording used during blog creation. So the problem is solved. But I cannot figure out the reason. Note that I have tried rebooting the computer when tackling the problem..

Concerning the blog name, it remains unmodifiable. This means that the blog name is determined during blog creation process. As previously mentioned, ‘Settings->General->Site Title’ affects only the blog title in the blog page display. The blog names shown in ‘My Blogs’ cannot be changed after creation. Thus blog writer should be careful to select the name to create a blog.

Since the blog name reappears in dashboard, there is no need to change the blog name any more.

Also, for information purpose, I do not encounter problem using foreign characters in the blog name. They show up correctly in the dashboard as well as in the blog page display. I can use foreign characters in the site title as desired. I am using an English OS and select English in ‘Settings->General->Language’. It may be necessary to install foreign language option during OS installation.

The blog names shown in ‘My Blogs’ cannot be changed after creation.

  • @notawoodpecker – thank you for the clarification; I was definitely missing that point!

@hongongenterprise – since it sounds like the issue has resolved and it’s a new blog, I suspect that the issue is a propagation delay with the foreign characters. It may take a day or two for the correct name to appear. As Notawoodpecker points out, you can change the blog address as it appears in My Blogs.

    I hope that helps you!
