Blog name I want is taken, but that person hasn’t updated since 2007

I’m having a big delimma on this blog name. Well, I wanted my blog name to be “Black Nail Polish” my current blog name is “Black Nail Polishx” and I don’t want to have to completely change it for my readers but unfortunately, it was already taken. So I checked out that person’s blog, and it appears that the person hasn’t updated since May of 2007. There is no trace of email or contact on her blog whatsoever, it doesn’t even look like the girl even posted anything. Its frustrating to see someone who deserves the name who will carry it out well will not get a chance to get the name. I don’t know what to do! Your advice is greatly appreciated

This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.

WordPress does not delete or giveaway unused blogs. What you can do is leave a comment on the blog and ask them to get in touch with you if they are interested in transferring the blog to you.
If you do not get any response, then contact staff at http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ and see if they will contact the blog owner for you and let them know that you are interested in their blog.

You have two other options:
1) leave the URL as it is, but change the blog NAME under Settings->General, and then the displayed name will be what you choose. There are obvious drawbacks to this.
2) purchase the domain upgrade and get BlackNailPolish.com or .org or .whatever is available. Normally I don’t recommend paid upgrades, but I have this on several blogs and it’s totally worth it.
