Blog name: Taken or not taken?
-
I was creating a new blog recently, and here’s what happened:
1. When I submitted the name I wanted to use, I got the message that it was taken.
2. When I typed that name into my browser prompt, I was told that the site did not exist.
Which is telling the truth? What’s going on?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

They can both be true. If a user creates a blog then deletes the blog, the name is unavailable for future users.
Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to reuse its WordPress.com address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com).
-
The address could also be reserved for someone else, even if they haven’t registered it yet. When anyone registers a username the matching URL is reserved for them and no one else can register it. The message on the screen when you try to view that URL should tell you whether is it deleted or has been reserved.

Clear as a bell, friends. Thanks for your time & expertise. Paradox resolved. Kind of a dog in the manger thing?
