Blog name "unavailable" yet "does not exist"

I tried to start a new blog, but wordpress came back with a message that it was already in use under the “.wordpress.com” domain, but still available under the domains requiring a fee. Yet, when I put the address that I wanted with the .wordpress.com domain in m browser, wordpress came back saying the site does not exist. Can someone tell me what happened? I would like to keep the name I had, as it does not seem it is in use. I have saved a screenshot of wordpress’s messages in case they need to be reviewed by anyone.

I did. I actually went to my current working blog and just typed over my current blog name in the browser, leaving all other parts of the url the same.

No. It’s a different name. Instead of “gardensofsolania,” I typed in a new blog name into my browser. Then got a wordpress page called “Boss” saying that the page does not exist.

Can you tell me why you need to know the exact name? Are you a wordpress tech or other employee who can troubleshoot the problem and find out what happened? If not, I would rather not reveal the name, since as I stated, I still want to use it if at all possible, so do not want to risk someone else somehow using it. I don’t mean to be ungrateful or anything, but just on the safe side. Also not sure exactly why you need to know that specific name and how you will verify anything upon knowing it. If you can explain why I need to state the name, then I can consider whether to do it or not.

Blogs belong to those who registered them. There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account In this case there is no contact information and Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.
Also note that the 404 (page not found) error on that blog was caused by the blogger deleting the Hello World placeholder post.

http://summeryellow.wordpress.com/ was registered by a user and just hasn’t been posted to. Since they have no point of contact, you really won’t be able to get it from them.

Just so I understand, you’re saying that the blog does exist, even though the error page says that it does not exist? I’m not sure what is meant by Timethief’s “Also note that the 404 (page not found) error on that blog was caused by the blogger deleting the Hello World placeholder post.” Is this how the blogger got the message saying blog does not exist to appear? So, this means that not only is the blog more or less abandoned (not being posted to) but the blogger is using a trick to make it seem that it doesn’t even exist?

It does exist.
It is registered to another blogger.
It’s an unused blog and there’s no requrement that any blogger has to use any blog they register.
There is no trick involved here at all.
The bottom line is you cannot acquire that blog. -
The trick I am referring to is the blogger’s deletion of the “Hello World” placeholder post that you mentioned. I’m asking whether that is how the blogger gets the message that the page is non existent to appear? I did not really understand that part of your comment. I understand now that I cannot get the blog name, but as long as you’re explaining, I would like to understand your meaning.
