Blog name used can I register the domain instead?

    Hey Guys!

    First of all-please accept my apologies for silly questions. I’m a 100% newbie to WordPress so you know… it could be difficult for me to ask questions and for you to read them.

    First thing is- I wanted to get my own blog, something I could use to express myself, don’t need it for money or anythin, I just have so much to say :)

    Now, the issue is that my name seems to be already taken. So 2 questions on that:
    1. Can I claim my username back? It doesn’t seem to be active here so like, give it to me, cause I use it everywhere else :)
    2. I was thinking about actually registering a domain, the domain with the name I wanted is available, 18 euro, not bad. But the problem is (please please don’t judge me) that I have no idea what’s the difference between a blog and the domain.

    It would be great to get your advice, guys. Even there are probably many other similar topics. But i couldn’t find them so I’m in a way excused :)

    Hi there. No need to apologise. The forums are there for people who need help, so you’re welcome to ask your questions here.

    If the username you want is already taken you won’t be able to use it. Even if the person who originally registered it is no longer active on WordPress.com, there is no way for you to claim that username.

    Keep in mind that WordPress.com allows you to set a Display name that’s different from your username. Your username will appear when you post in the forums and you’ll use it to log in, but the display name will appear as author on your site and when you leave a comment. The display name can be anything you want and you can use the same display name as someone else. The display name can also contain capital letters and special characters, unlike the username.

    http://pannaherezja.wordpress.com/ is your free WordPress.com URL. That is the place on the internet where your blog is hosted. The other name for the URL is the address, while “blog” refers to the site at that address.

    If you buy a custom domain, e.g. mydomain.com, your blog will still be at http://pannaherezja.wordpress.com/, but when people visit your site they’ll see mydomain.com in their browsers instead. Search engines will also index your site at mydomain.com. https://en.support.wordpress.com/all-about-domains/
