Blog not an option under "posts page"

Im trying to create a static home page where I can have a link to my blog and other pages. When I try to select my blog as my “posts page” there is no page for my blog. Am I missing something?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes. Create a page called “blog” or whatever you like, and make that your posts page at Settings > Reading. The content of the page itself will not be seen, so it can be left empty.

But my website already has a blog. Right now when you go to my website it shows my blog but when I try to create a splash page and a link to my blog, there is no page called “blog” I can link to.

A blog is a website. Are you clear on that?

To create a static front page read on. You have two choices on any blog
    (1) All posts on the front page.
    (2) A static front page and posts on a different page.

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors.

However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

    @ jenniferbanz,

The information and links provided by timethief are apt, and will help you to understand why the two steps I provided are the solution to your issue (especially the Front Page support page), but I promise you that those two steps will do the trick. Here they are again:

    1. Create a page called “blog” or whatever you like, and
    2. Make that your posts page at Settings > Reading.

Actually, there’s another important step I left out.

    3. Choose a static page as your front page at Settings > Reading.
