Blog not appearing in reader (tags)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

Today I made a new blogpost and it wasn´t showing up in the tags pages/reader, like I experienced before with my posts lately and as far as I now I am and always have been following the rules, not more than 15, original content, not mature etc

My new post https://elbuenoelfeo.wordpress.com/2016/11/11/my-top-5-destinations-in-south-east-asia-no-3/ doesnt show up in any of the tag readers again?
When I look at these readers (with my used tags) it is nowhere to be found:
    https://wordpress.com/tag/thailand or
    https://wordpress.com/tag/photography or
    https://wordpress.com/tag/travel or

    Or am I looking wrong?
My blog is visited only by my followers since a long time, in the beginning many people came in through the readers.
    Any help?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ron

In general I don´t understand why there´s so little posts if I look for tags like Thailand (https://wordpress.com/tag/thailand) or so, there must be much more, no?

But mine is definitely not there? Wonder if I´m blocked?

  • Hi @rondje, it looks like your site is flagged as mature. Sites that are flagged mature won’t show up in topic listings in the reader:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/mature-content/

If you don’t have any mature content as defined by that article (or if you’ve removed any content that would be considered mature) let us know and we can fix this. Cheers!

    Hi @supernovia,

My blog is not mature and has never been, it has always been about landscape & urbex photography and lately more about travel(photography)!

So please take a look yourself and please fix it, so I can reach viewers again,

    Thanks in advance,
    Ron

And maybe tell me how long this has been and how it happened?

  • Looks like it’s been a while. I’ve undone that for you, though. Can you let me know next time you post something? I’ll take a look at it.

Also, be sure you’re adding the needed tags and categories before publishing.

Ok, thanks for that. Still very interested how this happened?
    And who reported my blog?
Cuz I cannot understand WP ever reviewing it as mature, thats impossible!
End of the week will make a post about my travels in Laos, will mention it here too.

    Thanks again,
    Ron

  • Thanks @rondje, it looks like it was just a false positive at some point that wasn’t caught. You’re all set from here on out. Let me know when your next post goes out, and we’ll double check it for you. Cheers!

Ok, thanks, shame WP didnt give me a heads up when this happens, will let you know when i post, Cheers!

  • Sorry about that! Talk to you soon.

  • Perfect. I can see this in the tags in the reader now.

Can you take a look at my site too? I sometimes get the impression that I got a lot more visitors from the reader in the past. I wondered if there is something wrong.

  • Hi @diaryofdennis, sure. Your site looks fine; it’s not marked mature.

Remember less is more on tags and categories. Also, I noticed in some cases it looks like you’re treating tags like search engine keywords. Think of them instead as topics people are following. Tags should be a bit more specific than categories, but not so specific that no one would be following that topic, if that makes sense.

    This may help:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/

As for search engine keywords, most search engines don’t bother with them so much. For SEO, try to use a title that has a word or phrase folks would look for, and use those words in the body too, while still keeping the content interesting and not spammy sounding. It’s a fine balance, I know, but if you’ll look at which articles get the most hits on search engines you’ll probably see what’s working for you.

Organic search traffic was not meant, because that’s an area where I have absolutely no problems with thousands of views per day, and 99% of it is probably organic search traffic. I definitely know how to get people from the outside on my blog… :)

I talked more about the single word tags that I apply purely to my photography related content that is purely aimed at the photography community at wordpress. I treat these single word tags like hashtags at instagram. What I meant was, a tag like “photos” worked a lot better two years ago compared to today to get WP reader visitors to see the photo content.

Thanks for looking into it, then it seems that it must be the fact that so many more photographers put up their work at WP today, compared to two years ago. That’s what I think then. I thought it could have been that my content was marked as mature, but I think the problem is really that photography became so much more popular in the WP reader and that it becomes harder to stand out.

Thanks for helping! Always happy with the WP support :)

I’m sure it’s exactly that. It is a more popular topic now. All of your site settings are fine though. :)

Cool that’s fine. And the popularity is no wonder, photography is a beautiful hobby!

Thank for helping me and rondje, and sorry for hijacking the thread but it seems rondje’s problem was solved too. :) Have a nice week rondje and supernovia. :)

  • Cheers all, I’ll go ahead and close this out. If you need more help, let us know by opening a new thread and adding the modlook tag.
