Blog not appearing in wordpress.com searches or tag pages
-
I filed this with support using the proper form (and recieved a confirmation email yesterday), but thought I would bring it up here too…
A little while ago I started a WordPress blog – http://turningthepedals.wordpress.com – and imported all my old blog posts into it – I’ve been blogging for years, so there was a *lot* of it. Last night I was browsing the various curated tagged pages at wordpress.com and looked for the post I had just written – and discovered none of my posts show up.
I’m guessing the blog has been tagged as spam, or mature incorrectly – but until I get an answer from WordPress, I’m in the dark. Just wondering if anybody else knows anything I can do to check or change it’s status other than filing the support call and waiting for a few days for a response…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Interesting… so I wonder why I’m not appearing under other tags ?
Are the curated pages really referring to categories, and not tags ?

imported all my old blog posts into it
As Tess has said Categories and Tags are treated the same way by WordPress.com and by search engines. The posts displayed in the global tag pages are displayed in order of their original date stamp.

I’m having the same problem and I’ve been at this for almost 3 years. I’ve noticed that the posts initially show up on the tag pages and then something happens and they disappear. I’m posting every night during the week on a case that is currently at trial, the case I started on, and 2 out of 3 mornings I wake up and the post that was there after publishing the night before is gone. I’m following all of the rules for tags and including my category as a tag, no more than 10, no less than 5 (being very specific that they are representing my content). I usually use 10 total, but tried last night to use less than that, and it still happened. I’ve noticed that every time it does happen that you will see posts from others on the front page from as much as 2 weeks ago, and you could go one 1 page back and find a post from 1 week ago, and maybe mixed in some posts from a few days ago. My posts are not the only ones disappearing, but most people just don’t fight it anymore, as it has been going on on and off for years. WordPress fixes it sometimes and it will go a while without happening and then it starts again. Many of us used to reschedule our posts to put them back, but now that is a no no and it doesn’t work anymore anyway. I never did it more than a few times on a single post, but only to put the post back. Sadly people that break all of the rules seem to remain strong on those pages. This is the only real glitch I’ve ever found with wordpress, but it does cost some readership. I’ve tried reporting those that break all of the rules, but I just don’t have the time to do that anymore. My blog has grown in spite of this problem, and most of my regulars find me anyway, but I it is still really not fair.
It seems to happen on very popular topics.
At the moment there is a blogger on the Caylee Anthony and the Casey Anthony pages that has no title and says he just didn’t know what to write about, yet he’s tagged it there. There is another that has their post on there 3 different times. These things I’ve notice as of a about 15 minutes ago. My first post that shows up on those pages, is from 2 days ago.
I’ve tried looking on those pages from 2 different computers and 2 different browsers. There is a problem with the global tag pages on popular topics. -

Thanks for all the input everybody. I’ll carry on writing as I have been then, use the categories and tags appropriately, and keep an eye on it.
I’m not really too worried about it not being listed – it was just curious that it didn’t appear.

As niecey456 has taken this to Staff and received an answer it’s now clear that the display of posts on the global tagging pages under the most popular tags is randomized. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-is-wrong-with-the-global-tag-pages?replies=7#post-632088

That’s a cool thing to know — and it makes perfect sense once you think about it for a bit (which I hadn’t until now!) — that if they didn’t randomize in some way, the newest posts would always dominate. This would be a particular problem for tags/cats that are very popular and used a lot. Seems fair, and I like fair. :)

I’m guessing I’ll have to wait for WordPress to come back to me – my blog isn’t showing *anywhere* in the system, apart from the one tag somebody highlighted earlier.

Staff are very busy with support tickets but as soon as they can they will respond to you.

I’m still not clear on why randomize. It’s NATURAL for the tag pages to be just posts that have been posted in the last minute or two, when you have this many bloggers. Why is that a problem? Everyone is featured equally, for a brief time.
What value does randomization add? And how, exactly, does the randomization work?
There have been a LOT of changes to the tag pages, important changes. I’m not at all happy with the way they work now; essentially they’ve reduced the added value of hosting at WP.com instead of independently. Substantially.

Hi, raincoaster! You do have a point, but I think that with tags/cats that are very broad and have a gazillion entries, none of them would be up long enough to get any hits. Try the tag, “Life,” for example. I do think that for very popular tags, randomization (among the most recent ones — they likely have some algorithm for it) is probably a good thing.
-
Hits from tag pages are negligible anyway, but they would be up, every post would be up with an equal chance of getting read, for the entire length of time whoever reads teh tag page keeps that page open.
Again: what does randomization help? If it’s truly random, then you’re not just competing against recent posts, you’re suddenly competing against every post ever made in that category.
This is not better.
-
I don’t think that there are really ancient tags in the mix, just more recent ones — there’s likely some cut-off point. But perhaps you’re right.
I’ve also noticed it’s rare for people to be referred via a tag or category, and my blog is very “narrow niche” (particularly on WordPress), so for most of the tags, there’s not much company on the global tags pages. Maybe if I felt my blog was more affected, I’d prefer not to have them randomized, but between the very scant “return” on the tags and the fact that most of mine aren’t very common ones, I’ve not noticed any effect from the randomization.
-
Normal tags pages are not randomized. Popular tags pages like http://en.wordpress.com/tag/life/ are currently created using an algorithm that we haven’t made public. It’s not exactly technically randomized per se, but it’s not a straight across list of every post either.
