blog not displaying – its trying to serve https on sub domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    HI

The mapped blog url is: blog.tripcover.com.au

The normal website domain is https://tripcover.com.au with SSL

So when wordpress tried to redirect tripcover.worldpress.com to blog.tripcover.com.au it does not work because its trying to find https://blog.tripcover.com.au – however the blog does not have an SSL registed for it.

Do we need to register an SSL for the blog or is there some way around it?

    thanks in advance.
    Steve

    Hi there,

That’s very interesting! I have put this in front of some of the people who handle this type of issue. As soon as I have some additional information, I will let you know!

I can’t believe I forgot to check this, but it looks like the CNAME for your blog.tripcover.com.au hasn’t been set yet, which is what is causing this issue. If you could please go in and set the CNAME for blog.tripcover.com.au to point to tripcover.wordpress.com, that should fix things!

    Hi Thanks for the tip.

I updated the destination URL in CNAME to http://tripcover.wordpress.com/

However within wordpress settings – when I make blog.tripcover.com.au the primary URL – it fails.

For example if i type blog.tripcover.com.au in the browser it redirects to http://tripcover.wordpress.com/ and the page browser page is blank with this error message:

The website has been http://blog.tripcover.com.au/ too many redirects. It is possible that the problem is solved by deleting cookies from this site or allowing third-party cookies. If that does not work, maybe the problem is related to a bug in the server configuration, not with the computer.

So I switched the primary url back to tripcover.worldpress.com

The too many redirects error happens during propagation periods. I noticed that the TTL for your domain is 4 hours, which means it’s going to take a while before this is fully set up. You can check back every once in a while just by changing the primary domain back to blog.tripcover.com.au to see if it works, but it will likely take a minimum of 4 hours!
