Blog not extend full width of screen
-
Hello all,
I’m using the Twenty Fourteen theme for my blog site. For some reason it does not extend the full width of the screen, leaving a wide, empty white bar on the right side. It looks fine on mobile, but on any computer or tablet it shows the white, blank bar. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there:
That is by design as the theme width is set to 1260px.
In order to change that, you would need to upgrade to a Premium plan or higher, which would give you access to the CSS editor where you can make changes to the CSS and affect the theme width for Twenty Fourteen.
Let us know if you decide to upgrade and we can give you direction on how to get started modifying your theme CSS.
I hope that clarifies things!

Hello! Thanks so much for the response. That is so strange that the default would be to have it look like that, I don’t see the purpose, and I just spent the last 2 weeks transferring my blog to that theme. It looks so tacky and unprofessional. Can you recommend a similar news-like theme that doesn’t have issues like that so I don’t waste more time. Any input is helpful, and thanks in advance! AC

Hi there,
A theme like Eden may work well for a magazine theme: https://wordpress.com/theme/edin/
I would say most full width themes would match well with the content you’re adding to your site:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/full-width-template/
Before switching themes, you can always test how they look with your content by clicking the three dots to the right of the theme and choose Try & Customize:
Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for the response. I’ll look into those. I’m wandering if there’s a way to at least center the Twenty Fourteen theme on the screen. If that could be done that would solve the issue. It’s just that almost quarter of the screen on the right is such an eyesore. Thanks for your time!

Without the CSS upgrade, there isn’t, unfortunately. Note that this theme was created eight years ago when screen resolutions weren’t what they are today, so the original impact of the theme’s fixed, left-aligned layout wasn’t as evident then as it is now.
Let us know if you have other questions!
