Blog not publishing in order loaded

I have just added a post ‘The Preparations Begin’ and it has added it into the blog in the wrong order. This is my latest post so should be at the end? It keeps doing this. I have changed it several times to make it in the right order but don’t know why it’s doing this? Can you help please?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi planetdebra,

By default, blog posts appear in reverse chronological order – the newest posts would be at the top. Here’s some documentation on post order and how to change it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/show-your-posts-in-chronological-order/

It looks like your “It’s time…” post of Sept 19 is set to be “sticky”, so it’s keeping its place at the top of the page. Information about sticky posts and how to change their status is here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-visibility/.

I hope this helps! Please reply to the thread if anything is unclear.

I checked the settings and it is not set to sticky although it does show as sticky on the dashboard. This is not the only post it has put in the wrong order. I have spent ages deleting stuff and moving it to get into the right order. I really don’t see what I’m doing wrong – if anything. Debra

    Hi Debra,

Am I understanding that the “It’s Time…” post shows a yellow sticky tab in the dashboard, but when you click Edit and look at the Post Status (on the right, under Post Settings), the “Stick to the front page” button is off?

(Note that it will be grey if it is off, and blue if it is on).

Which order do you want your posts to appear in? Newest on top, or oldest on top?

Yes you are correct in your assumption. I want it to post as oldest on top if possible please. Sorry for the delay in replying I have been very busy. Thanks Debra

    Hi planetdebra,

I’m able to see from our end that the “It’s Time…” post is indeed set as sticky. To un-stick it, please do this:

    1. Click on Blog Posts and scroll down to the post
    2. Click on Edit
    3. On the right, under Post Settings, click Status to expand
    4. Click the toggle next to “Stick to the front page” so that it turns from blue to grey.

This will return that post to the regular post display order flow.

To reverse the default post order (by default, posts will appear in reverse chronological order – newest on top), you have a few options:

    1. Change the publication date. Include changing the publication time if you have multiple posts published on the same date.
    2. Instead of using the theme’s default page for showing blog posts, you can create a new page and use a URL or shortcode to call up your blog posts. If you use a URL or shortcode, you have some more control over how you’d like your posts to display.

More details on these options are here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/show-your-posts-in-chronological-order/

If you’d like to give this a try and get stuck, please reply to this thread and we’ll be glad to see you through the changes.

I’m really sorry but I already said, it is grey and saying it’s not ‘sticky’.

I just looked again but I already looked before. I have switched it on/ off to see if that works but it is not set to sticky at my end.

Would it be possible to upload a screenshot to help in troubleshooting?

Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or GIF – in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

Hi I uploaded a screenshot as requested. Thanks Debra

Thank you! I checked your screenshot and can see that the post titled “The Preparations Begin” is not sticky.

The post I’m seeing as sticky is the one with the title “It’s Time…” Can you check that one on your end and see if the sticky toggle is blue?

Just to clarify: one you unstick it, your posts will appear newest first, oldest last. If you want to reverse their order, you can try the methods I posted above.
