Blog not showing

  I’ve just been through over 70 pages looking for my blog entry, under “Australia” category, and can’t find it their. Even went back to dates before the last post was added. This is not the first time this has happened. A couple other times when looking couldn’t find it then either, and went through heaps of pages. Sure doesn’t help blog stats go up, only had 650 hits in nine months. Can someone please help with this. Thanks.

  My first suggestion is to not duplicate categories in tags on your posts. Example: Category Australia and tag Australia. I’ve seen blogs not appear in the tags pages when there are duplicates.

  As far as wordpress global tags pages and also search engines, there is no difference between tags and categories. They treat them both exactly the same. Remove the duplicates, save the posts again and then take a look.

  Next, due to people abusing the category and tagging system trying to “game” the system, wordpress instituted a limit on the total number of tags + categories you can put on a post and still have it appear in the tags pages. The limit is 12 or less. Example: 3 categories + 9 tags = 12 or 5 categories + 7 tags = 12. Some of your posts have more than 12 total and those will have to be reduced. There were cases where people were putting the same 100 tags on each post they did regardless of whether the tags were appropriate.

  Hi again sacredpath, I just checked the last one thats not showing, its only got 3 categories and 5 tags, shouldn’t that one be showing?

  You would think so, but I’ve found instances where if one post ends up excluded because of too many tags/categories, none of them show.

  Are there duplicates between the tags/categories in that post?

  Hi sacredpath, yes there is one duplicate, Australia.

  Then delete one.

  Thanks sacredpath am going through them and changing it, used to just click on all categories and tags I had there.

  Also keep in mind that “Australia” is a general tag or category. There are a gazillion people posting about that on WordPress alone, not to mention in Google. Unless you have some mystical charisma, you won’t be high up in the searches. Be more specific with tags/categories: Australian food, Australian politics, australian racism, australian animals… or whatever specific topic you are writing about.
