Blog of the minute

I am aware that the blog of the minute is determined on hits etc. however is there anyway of being notified when you are blog the minute? it is quite an achievement i feel so being informed of it might be an excellent idea?

  • Unknown's avatar

None currently. Honest answer – If you’re doing under 5k hits within a single day, I wouldn’t be worrying about being up there. :)

Feel free to submit a feedback though with this suggestion.

  • Unknown's avatar

The notification would be a spike in visits.

Getting more that 5K hits per day may not even get you into the top 100 listing.

According to Matt, those lists are not based on hits.

Here are the last ten days worth of traffic to my main blog http://quotes.wordpress.com/

    02-20 4299
    02-21 4662
    02-22 5073
    02-23 4620
    02-24 3687
    02-25 4084
    02-26 5482
    02-27 5556
    02-28 5540
    03-01 5743

On none of those days was the site in the top 100 for either all languages or for English.

On none of those days did any of the most active posts show up in the top posts.

I’m fairly certain that it has never shown up in the blog of the minute.

That’s very bizarre: I’m on Top Blogs now (and usually am) with half the hits. Have you thought about sending a Feedback to get some clarity?

  • Unknown's avatar

I was very excited to be featured on the “Blog Of The Minute” yesterday. Thanks wordpress.

When the main blog dropped off the listings, where it had been since they were initiated, I sent in a feedback in and and Matt replied and said that from their point of view “it’s working correctly.”

My main concern was that somehow the blog was tagged to not show up.

He said “BOTD is meant to highlight the most interesting blogs, not the ones with highest traffic.”

    That basically sounded like …

“If we don’t like the topic of your blog it won’t show up.”
    – Matt

Another person later replied from support and said “BOTD uses historical stats as well as current visitor patterns to determine which and where blogs are listed. There have been no significant recent changes to the algorithm that I am aware of.”

It could be that my main blog just fell victim to success.

It had about 30,000 visitors for Valentine’s Day and was #2 on the top Blogs.

Traffic then fell to its normal level of around 5000 pageviews per day over the next couple of days.

Perhaps the blog of the day algo looks at precipitous drops in traffic as a reason to exclude a blog from the listings, even though it is simply returning to normal levels?

If that is the case then I would expect that effect to wear off after a while.

    Time will tell.

Interesting. It sounds quite possible that the bar is not absolute, but relative to your stats for the past month/week/whatever. But…Scoble’s stats are relatively stable and he’s always in the top. Mine have nearly doubled over the past week, yet I’m in more or less the same spot in Top Blogs that I was before, and considerably down from where I was with the same number of hits the last time I had a spike. Weirdness. Need coffee to figure this out…

  • Unknown's avatar

There could be some percentage that your stats have to drop to remove you from the listing.

engtech is back in the listings now and he had the same spike on Valentine’s Day that I had, actually, his was twice as high as mine … he had about 60,000 pageviews in one day.

He was then removed from the top blog listings after a few days and was nowhere to be found for a while but his blog is now back into the top listings.

Another blog of mine that had a spike to 20,000 followed by a drop to 4000 was not removed from the listings of top blogs.

I think they just removed my blog because they don’t find the topic interesting.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Nope,

engtech’s drop was sharper than mine and he is still in the top blogs.

  • Unknown's avatar

I do not get over 5k hits per day. LOL Far from it. My average is 170 or so, as in hundreds. But I am “Blog of the minute” as I type this.

    Thanks WordPress!!! :)

  • Unknown's avatar

So if the link is incorrect, does that mean I’ll see a rise in page views anyway? :)

  • Unknown's avatar

OMG MY BLOG IS BLOG OF THE MINUTE!!!!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

is this an April Fool’s thing from WordPress? I just saw my blog in “Blog of the Minute” but I checked my blog stats and from the looks of them, I don’t think I should’ve made it.

Well, I’m hoping this isn’t an April Fool’s joke ’cause if it isn’t, it means that I finally may have an audience : )

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay…never mind. I’m guessing it is an April Fool’s thing judging from the fact that everyone seems to be on “Blog of the Minute”. Shucks haha.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Very funny guys.

  • Unknown's avatar

Aw man! I just posted an April Fool’s blog, and it was blog of the minute. I come here and,..
