Blog on a menu?
-
Hello
Ok, I have read through everything (I think) about pages & menu’s etc, but I am still slightly stuck.
I would like to know if – on a menu (Preferably the one I already have on my current theme!) its possible to add Diary or blog and then it leads to the very first post….I have thought I have seen this action on wordpress….but everytime I attempt it, I have used pages to write the word Diary/Blog on – then put it on the menu, but obviously then when you have clicked on it, all you have clicked on is the page where you made the words….Not what I wish for.
Can anyone please help, as like I said above, I have repeatedly looked round, but cannot find anything to resolve my problem.
Big thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is your “very first post” will always be the same (it’s a specific post, not your latest post) ? In this case :
1. copy this post URL
2. Go in appearance/menu and create a menu item using *custom link*
3. Paste your url, name it whatever you want
4. Place it in your menu. You can also play with post categories that can also be included in custom menus.

Thank you @1tess…. while I have got your attention please, I am trying…as i have done in the past to upload a vodpod clip to my page….now I know you used to allow it, and there are other sites that have been allowed, has vodpod been stopped as although it still gives me a shortcode to insert into my post – I can’t see anything?

@elisedesaulniers – your post was most interesting to read…however, I already have a menu, (Think it could be a custom one) and its called me or about….on that menu I have pages….but for a diary I am going to want the posts to be that, posts arent I….so how do I go about that…when I can’t appear to add posts to the menu now which has all pages on it….Hope that makes sense!!

The whole bar is the custom menu. There are multiple items one can include in the custom menu bar. It’s critical that you comprehend the differences between Pages and Posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and you are clear on the fact that static Pages are not Categories.
(1) There is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) The static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ we create do not automatically update.Only the dynamic pages like Archives, Categories and Tags created by the software when we publish a post will update automatically update with new posts.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menusThere are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well.

Yes I have just been looking at the differences… I notice with posts, you get the date at the beginning of the post automatically – great if you wish to do just a diary….however, what I am aiming for (And hoping is going to be successful and achievable) is to have the menu as it is consisting of pages for the relevant information on it and then one that consists of just a post that shows the date of whatever I am posting that particular day.
IS that possible? Otherwise what other way is there?

This is the front page of your blog by default http://guyhenryfans.wordpress.com/
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
You must create a Page for your Posts to appear on.After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

But won’t that mean all the other pages won’t show…? They would have to be converted to posts, which I don’t want…
Also if I have understand what you have said correctly…I have to make a page for the posts to appear on…but that will mean, if I name a page, and put it on the menu, then begin a post, the name of the page on the menu will appear on the post…?
Have I got all of the above correct..? (Apologies, trying to grasp what you are telling me :-) )

Thank you for that link, I have been looking at it before…So what I have mentioned i would like to do….ie have the pages thats currently on the menu to stay, but add a post to it too….is not possible..?
-
Ok..Think I have cracked it! Unsure of how I did it..now if you look at the link…the first page says Diary (Through the menu bar) but the next page doesn’t have a huge title as such….how do I get rid of the huge Diary title on the first post so it looks more like the second one…or is it there because its the first post and on the menu bar…tried all ways. Want the word to stay on the menu bar but to lose it on the post itself as the second one doesnt have it…Thanks
