  What is the difference between the two – if I a starting a business, would need both, right?

  A blog is a type of website. A typical website can serve many different purposes such as providing information, giving access to a service, or acting as a message board.

  A blog is a website that contains a lists of posts an what ever subject the blogger is posting about. It’s actually short for “web log” and just shortened to blog.

  WordPress.com gives you a single home page that is a a blog (list of posts you create), and also allows you to have static informational pages as part of the same website.
