  I would like to create a blog and/or website similar to https://bacshortly.wordpress.com/ where I have a homepage and widget sidebar of daily posts in chronological order, oldest on top with most recent added at the bottom. What is the best approach?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  For your purpose, consider using a Text widget and the Display Posts Shortcode to automatically show oldest post on top, for example:
  [display-posts order="ASC" posts_per_page="5"]
  This shortcode will show the oldest 5 posts, with the oldest on top.

  Note that as your posts grow, your newer post will not appear unless you increase the posts_per_page number.
