Hello. I have a WP website with a blog page. I want to customize the blog page–right now it’s just a boring list of 5 posts with summaries. How do I do that? I don’t want the blog page to be my home page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The question you are asking is: How do I create a static front page?
This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page. By default that is the URL of the site.(2) A static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. Create your pages first

Hi timethief. Thanks for your quick reply. I have a static home page, and I want to keep that. But my blog page–the page that shows snippets of the 5 most recent blog posts–is really boring. I want to customize THAT page.

We wordpress.com bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme. If you could edit the Blog page (which you cannot do) then everyone using the same theme would find their site had been changed too.Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications.
