Blog Page Does Not Appear as Clickable Button

    Hi.

I am trying to move from a single-page Blog to one with several pages, currently: Blog, About and Contact Me.

I have managed to add these Pages into my Primary Menu, and a button for each of these three is now automatically displayed. Clicking on About and Contact Me correctly takes me to those pages, but the problem is that the Blog button does not take me to my posts but to a blank page called “Blog”.

I read that this is how to set it up, i.e. creating a blank page and calling it “Blog”, but I confess that I have no idea how it would necessarily know that this is supposed to refer to my blogposts.

Can anyone help me set it up so that this Blog page does indeed link to my main blogposts?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards

By default the front page of the blog is the only page that will display all published posts on it. As soon as you publish a post not a page the error message will be gone. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.

However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, and know that static front pages can be traffic killers, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Did you modify your Reading Settings (Settings–>Reading) as described at #7 of the instructions on creation of a Static Front Page, as follows?

    1. At “Front page displays” select “a static front page.”
    2. At “Front page” select “Home” or whatever name you chose for your name. page. That name was chosen at instruction #2.
    3. At “Post page” select “Blog.” That name was chosen at instruction #5.

    That should do the trick.

@timethiefMany thanks. That information may be very useful further down the line.

musicdoc1That’s great! I completely forgot to change the Reading settings, so apologies and many thanks for reminding me.

If I could just ask a follow-up question? I need to re-align these three buttons to match the alignment of my main title, which I have already re-aligned using the Custom Design feature. Can you let me know what the CSS is which refers to these buttons, or group of buttons?

If you would prefer it if I start a new post and/or post it in a different forum section then I understand.

Many thanks again to both of you.

    Regards

    @xorlx,

Can you let me know what the CSS is which refers to these buttons, or group of buttons?

Sorry. Out of my realm. You might try searching for CSS editing of “header tabs,” or “top menu tabs.”

If you want to know about CSS edits, post in the CSS forum.

Thanks to both of you. I have received an answer to my query now.

Is there a way I can mark this as solved?

    Regards
