Blog page doesn't show images anymore

  Hi WP people,

  We have an issue with a site I set up for a friend.

  Her blog page leatekent.wordpress.com/blogused to show an image for every post, no text.
  We noticed that the images for the five latest entries are missing on the blog page.

  She didn’t change posting habits though.
  Every blog post contains at least one image, from the media library. (No space problem there, no images deleted.)

  Could you please look into this?

  Hi Judy,

  In the first example you’ve provided, the image at the top of the post is above the title, which suggests that it’s a featured image (see the Featured Images support page). In the second example, the image is below the post title, suggesting that the image is embedded in the content of the post. These differences might, in part, account for the different results on the blog page.

  Two questions:

  1. Does each post that isn’t displaying images on the blog page have a featured image set on it?

  2. In the absence of featured images on those posts, is the box titled “Automatically use first image in post” checked at Customize > Content Options > Featured Images (if such a box exists)?

  @musicdoc1’s guess is spot-on. None of those posts missing an image on the front page has a featured image set. Your theme uses the featured image to generate the image thumbnail for the blog page, so without a featured image set, it won’t display an image there.

  Ah thanks @musicdoc1, @kokkieh!
  I think I understand what happened now.

  The featured image was a preset.
  Probably that preset was turned off unintentially by inserting an image gallery, four posts ago.

  One more question:

  Is there a way to turn the featured image preset on again?
  (Can’t find that option in the Settings pages.)

  Good morning :)

  I’ve gone back and looked through the posts. The 6th post back on the list has a featured image set. I think that the settings were just forgotten about when the posts were published…

  This theme doesn’t support content options, so it’s not possible for a featured image to be set aside from manually picking and setting the desired image on each post.

  It’s also worth noting that the Museum theme has been retired. That could cause issues as browsers continue to be updated – eventually it’s going to go wonky or something will break. There’s no rush, but, I would suggest taking a look at the themes to find an alternate: https://wordpress.com/themes/
