Blog Page Opening Incorrectly When Pressing the Link on Twitter on Phone
-
I had this same question a while back, but it got quite technical and I didn’t understand. And I don’t recall that there was ever an actual conclusion reached. So:
It’s pretty hard to explain this, but:
I tweeted a link (this tweet is way back on my twitter feed now) to one of the pages on my WordPress site, and the preview of the page was showing fine – no problem. But when clicking the preview picture (aka the link) – it opens up something weird. It only shows some of the pictures, no text at all and the layout is all different (it’s like white and blue). When opened on a laptop there is no problem. It is when I press the link on Twitter on my phone that it opens this weird version of the page. I use iPhone, iOS, if that has anything to say.
So does anyone know why the twitter link, when opened on phone, opens up a very weird and incomplete version of the page on my WordPress site? I would very much like for it to open the “normal” version; the version that opens when opened on laptop.
I believe I was told it could have something to do with AMP(?)
Thank you in advance

I found your old report: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/twitter-link-opens-my-wordpress-site-incorrectly/
Can you give us a link to a specific Tweet that has the behavior you’re describing?
-
Yes!
Here’s the link to the tweet:
twitter.com/footballshirtdk/status/948924598762070017?s=21
Opening the link on this tweet on phone leads to a way different page than if the link is opened on PC.

It seems fine on my iPhone.
Are you using an Android phone? If so, Google may have run it through their AMP mobile optimizer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/amp-accelerated-mobile-pages/
You can switch that off following the steps at https://en.support.wordpress.com/amp-accelerated-mobile-pages/#turn-amp-on-or-off

I use an iPhone.
It’s weird, now I tried myself and it looked fine too.
But that was through opening twitter via the Messenger (Facebook) app. I clicked the link to the tweet in a Facebook chat, then opened the page link there.
But when I use the Twitter app itself, (and I just tried that again), it still gives the weird, incomplete version with a weird layout and no text. -

Opening the link in the Twitter app opens the blog page in the Twitter app (doesn’t open Safari)
-
Does the link work properly if you were to copy the URL from there and open it in Safari?
Also, which Twitter app are you using? Is the the official one, or a third-party, like https://twitterrific.com/ios/ or https://tapbots.com/tweetbot/ ?

Ok, so it sounds like there’s an issue in the Twitter app’s browser, and there isn’t really anything we can do about that since we have no control over how the Twitter app operates.
I’m unsure if the app has an option to choose which browser opens links, but if it does, choose Safari for that. I know that both Twitterrific and Tweetbot have that option.
