Blog page “read More” inconsistent

    On my blog page I have some blogs that have the 50 word excerpt and the “read more” then I have a few that don’t. Also my click through to different pages at the bottom doesn’t work properly, so I’ve just added all the blogs to one page, rather than 10 or 20.

    Here is a pic of my page – it’s a funeral business – thus the topics.

    Hey there,

    This could be just a theme related issue, but I did notice that Read More seems to work when it is put further down after the character limit.

    1. Try editing your Five Stages of Grief page and put the read more tag further down, or
    2. Try removing it completely, as the theme may already automatically limit the number of characters in the preview and automatically create a Read More tag.

    I would try those two things first to eliminate the possibility of this just being a theme related issue.

    Hi

    The “Read More” is from the Customising Menu – so it is meant to automatically go on all posts. However for some reason it misses some blogs and also the excerpt is not the full 40 words.

    Maybe it’s just a bug??

    Hard to say without checking out the admin for myself, but I think I’ve isolated the issue.

    If you look below, you will see the posts that do not have a Read More, do have an “entry summary” — which is a piece of text that was added to this post in an entry summary input area. Somewhere in that post, you added an ‘entry summary’ that only includes that line:

    When you click into the post itself, you will see this is not the actual text that the posts starts with:

    So, you need to just remove those entry summaries. I’m not sure the theme or plugins you are using but somewhere in those posts there are entry summaries added. When you remove them, it should just use the initial text of the post AND display a Read More button.

    Please let me know if you can identify where you have added these entry summaries. Hope this helps!

    Thank you – Yeah, I’m not sure how I did that. So I just need to delete them? But wondering where I would find these summaries in WP?
    I knew it would be operator error.
