"Blog" page redirected to static page once I changed category

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been all over searching for the answer so here I am. On my site when I click on the “Blog” page I get redirected to my static page (no more diets). This happened after I changed the category from “uncatagorized” to “healthy Living”. Also trying to resolve this I notice I have 2 blogs Connie Costello Health and Connie Costello Health Coach how can I delete the one that is blank (Connie Costello Health Coach) or does it even matter? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Connie, it looks like you already deleted the Blog page. Are you still having the redirection problem?

If you want to permanently delete the other site, follow the guide below:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-site/

Please read the warnings and advice before deleting a site, as we can’t revert a site deletion for any reason.

Thank you! Yes I resolved the blog issue. Scary to delete the other site! Does it matter if I just leave it would it interefere with SEO? Perhaps you can also help me with the spam. WordPress has been sending most of my blog comments to spam how would I determine if they are spam or not?
    Thanks again!

Hi Connie, it shouldn’t hurt anything to leave the other site if you’d prefer.

I think this article provides some helpful tips on identifying comment spam: http://weblogs.about.com/od/partsofablog/tp/IdentifyingBlogCommentSpam.htm

The two big things to look for are:

    1) Does the comment author provide a URL? If so, what is it? If it sounds like a commercial site rather than a personal one, that’s a red flag. Ask yourself if you would want your readers to click on the link or not.

    2) Does the comment make sense? Does it reply to a specific point in your post, or is it something vague or unrelated? Does it add value to the discussion, or is it just fluff?

I looked at the two comments that are currently waiting for moderation on your site, and they both look like spam to me. The first one has an author name of “hoodia diet supplement”, which is a dead giveaway. The second cites the exact title of the post in the comment in a way that sounds like it came from an automated script, rather than a human being. The author name is also suspicious, and the link is fake. Both make vague compliments, which is currently a very common technique in comment spam.

Whenever you find that a spam comment slips through our filtering system, it helps if you mark it as spam by clicking on the Spam link. That adds it to our database so we can detect and block similar comments in the future.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything else I can do.

    Excellent! Thank you!
I am just now writting a page in which I will be offering the option to buy a detox plan. It is the first thing I’ll be offering for sale besides my services. I plan to use Paypal as a payment option. I think I know what I’m doing … so far.

I would like people to send me a note if they have questions or feedback. Is it OK for me to just put my email address on the text? What other way can I get them to leave comments on a page that is not a blog page?

It’s best to use a contact form (http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/) instead of your direct e-mail address. If you put your address up there, then spammers will find it and start flooding your inbox :(

Thanks again! Why does my contact form get populated with my info?

More problems. I am trying to add the Paypal button so I get the code and add it to my page. It shows up and all looks great until I press the update button and then it disappears?

Hi Connie, the contact form can be populated with the info from the user who is viewing it (if they have a WordPress.com account), so visitors will see their info there instead of yours :)

We can’t allow the normal kinds of embed scripts that PayPal because of security concerns, but there is still a way to set it up. If you check out our article at http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ it will walk you through the process. Let me know if you run into any obstacles :)
