blog page vs home page

what is the difference between blog page and home page? I want to create a website where the 1. page is an ‘entrance’ as I call it. On this 1. page I want to list names/titles to the following pages ‘behind’ the 1. page.
But maybe my understanding of a website is complete different from how it’s actually possible to create them. I see a website like a book. Where the 1. page is at the same the cover of the book and the list of content. From where one can browse to the pages behind the 1. page.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

By default a WordPress site displays a list of blog posts, so this might be the “list of content” that you describe.

However it’s possible to change the default setting so that when readers arrive at your blog they “land” on a static page. This is how I currently have my blog setup – http://DonCharisma.org

Technically this front page on my site is http://DonCharisma/home , a page called “home”.

Then I also have a page called “blog”, which is a blank page that acts as a “placeholder” for the the list of blog pages – http://DonCharisma.org/blog

(And then also I have a link on my menu to the actually blog)

It would also be useful for you to have a look at this help document – https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Hopefully that should clarify how to setup your site how you’d like it. If not I’m contactable on this thread, or at my personal blog http://DonCharisma.org or at our commercial site http://DonCharisma.com

PS some themes also incorporate a widget area on the front page if it’s a static page – eg the Sela theme – https://wordpress.com/themes/sela/, I did a tutorial on how to setup the Sela theme like the demo, which may be of help – http://doncharisma.com/2015/04/08/getting-the-wordpress-sela-theme-to-look-like-the-demo/

The Sela theme also offers “grid” pages which are yet another way to group content together ! This is ONLY applies to pages (rather than posts), and the grid is created using a parent/child structure when you’re editing your pages.

Some other options, might help …

    Cheers

I have a “home” page set as static and I have my posts page set up separately. Live, the two pages are identical and are both the content of my home page. However, in the function to edit the posts page it is correct and previews correctly. I have cleared my history. Still not working.
