“Blog pages show at most” setting in Reading settings

It seems that the “Blog pages show at most” controls both how many blog posts are shown in search results (e.g. after clicking on a calendar date or category link) and the number of posts shown on the front page of the site.

Is there any way to make the front page of the site show only one post, but still allow the side-bar links (calendar, archive, tag cloug, categories, etc) show multiple results?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, the “show at most” effects all post related pages.

I had noticed that. I was just looking to see if anyone had a workaround.

For example, maybe there is a way to create a “Static” page that displays the single latest post and reset the start page to that?

Sorry, but there isn’t. The closest to that is the Hemingway theme which shows excerpts from the two latest posts, but Hemingway is quite weird in many respects.
