Blog pictures on home page have disappeared?

  Hi! I recently upgraded my wordpress to the new one and once I clicked upgrade, all of the pictures that showed on my home page to link to each individual blog post disappeared! Usually it automatically pulled the first picture in the post to use as the home page thumbnail but now it is blank. The only option I can find is to set a FEATURED image which shows up on the homepage (like I want) but also updates the header picture once you click through to the blog post. I do not want that – I want my regular header image to stay but to still have some type of ‘featured’ image on the home page where you scroll through my history of posts. Can someone help me?
