Blog post not appearing on reader and not getting any likes
-
I stopped posting for like a year and finally posted another, somewhat lengthy post with 11 tags yesterday. I am not able to see the post when I search for any of the tags on the Reader, and in 13 hours I have gotten zero likes, which is unusual because I used to easily get 5-10 likes per post before. I would like to find out if there is a glitch somewhere. My blog URL is mongoosemonologues.wordpress.com. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there, I don’t know about any glitches, but have you checked out this page yet? https://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/
There are several reasons listed for why your post may not be appearing in reader:
Missing Posts
If you have published a new post and it isn’t showing up on tag pages for the tags and categories that you’ve used, there are several possible explanations:
1. You are using too many categories or tags. In most cases, there’s no need to assign more than a handful of tags per post. If you use more than 15 tags and categories (total), your posts will not appear on tag pages (because you don’t want to see irrelevant content showing up there, and neither do we).
2. Your blog is private or hidden from search engines. Check the Settings -> Reading tab of your dashboard. You must choose the first option, Allow search engines to index this site, for your blog to be included on tag pages.
3. Your blog is mature or offensive. If you regularly post material that is offensive, not safe for work, or not suitable for minors, we might have flagged your blog as mature. Mature blogs are not included in the tag listings. Please contact support if you think your blog might have unfairly been flagged as mature.
4. You are misusing the tags feature. If you’ve been regularly using the “knitting” tag on posts about Britney’s latest scandal, your blog might have been excluded from tag pages for a while.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Yes, I did see that page but I don’t think any of these apply. Unless WP are a sensitive lot and have decided something I wrote was offensive!

Hi there,
I checked your site account and it isn’t marked mature – so users who are subscribed to your blog can view it in their Reader. I followed your site and was able to see your posts, so there isn’t anything wrong with your feed being seen in people’s Reader.
I also checked your tags and they are all fairly generic tags, which means that it is possible that there are plenty of other posts in those tags that quickly buried your post. However, I checked tags such as po’boy and your post is the first I found. So, there is users are able to find your posts within these tags.
I would continue posting quality content, adding specific tags such as po’boy, and you’ll definitely begin receiving the likes and views you are seeking.

Hi,
The problem still persists. I searched on the reader for two of my random tags from my last post, “New Orleans” and “Po Boy” (also searched plural “po boys” and using apostrophe) and my post still isn’t showing up.
There definitely aren’t a lot of entries that use either of the above tags and after the first few ones on the list we are already back at June and May, whereas I posted in late July. Unless WP has some kind of algorithm that only selects a few, and not all posts that carry a given tag, mine should have also come up. This is driving me crazy!
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

When I check the tag in Reader, your post is the second one from the top:

You’re still not seeing it?

Hi,
This is really strange. I searched for several of my tags one after another in the reader’s search field. My post comes up in most of the searches (but not when I do New Orleans for some reason) on my iPhone WordPress app, but when I look them up on my laptop’s Firefox web browser, NONE of the searches brings up my post, even though I see both newer and older posts by other people.
To make things more confusing, when I randomly click on those other people’s posts, I notice that they have typically not even used that word as a tag. So, for example, when I search for the word “Mississippi” in the search field, other people’s posts that have not used that tag come up, whereas mine doesn’t, even though I had used it as a tag. Makes me question whether using tags has any value at all.
I can’t help but feel that my post has gotten “lost” someplace and we just can’t seem to find where it is. I hope you will be able to solve this mystery!
Thanks…

Oops, just realized something… “Search” is different than “tags” on the reader sidebar. So I suppose someone can just “search” for “Mississippi” and I suppose picks posts up based on some other rule than whether the word was used as a tag or not? And then one can also “add” Mississippi as a tag at the bottom of the sidebar, and then when they click on that tag, any post that has the word as a tag appears. Essentially, two different ways to search for the same word in public posts.
In terms of visibility, what is more important, to come up in the general “search” section near the top of the reader sidebar, or in the “tags” search at the bottom? And what would I need to do to come up in both of the searches?

Exactly.

Both, for sure. If you are wanting other WordPress.com users to find you, the tag feature is a great way for them to do that. The reason why it is important to have those key words in your actual posts is because people can find it both in WordPress.com search and potentially in search engines such as Google. Tagging helps as well.
