Hi Esha,
When the infinite scroll is turned off, then the number of posts displayed on the blog page, is determined by the “Blog pages show at most” setting at Reading Settings. However, note that the “Blog pages show at most” setting will not only apply to the blog page, but also to the author, category, tag, date (year, month, day) archives pages, all other archives pages, and search results.
You can disable the Infinite scroll by using these guidelines here:
You can set up the “Blog pages show at most” setting to 5 in your reading settings, this support document will help you with it:
Also, note to be able to access your Reading setting in your Wp-Admin use this link:

Hope this helps, let me know for any further questions.

Thanks for pitching in, pavanraheja!
Just wanted to let you both know that setting the number of posts per page is now possible in the dashboard; no need to go into the old WP Admin area.
Go to Settings > Writing, and under the Content Types section you’ll see where to set the number of posts per page.
