Blog post shows title only on mobile (must click to expand/open)

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m currently using the twenty fourteen theme.

Everything seems to be fine when viewing on desktop, but when I view on mobile, my ‘pinned’ blog post that appears on my home page appears with the title only. In order to view it, you have to click on it.

Is there any way for the blog post to show in full on mobile without the need to click to expand?

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I took a moment to review your site both on a desktop computer and on a mobile phone, but I’m not seeing the specific post you’re referring to that only displays the title on mobile.

Could you please let me know the exact title or the link to the blog post in question? This will help me to better understand the situation and offer you a solution.

Looking forward to your response and helping you get this sorted out.

    Thanks for the message @fstat!

The blog post that is not showing up on mobile is titled “Explore Samoa with Manoa Tours” – only the subject shows up on mobile and then you can click to expand it. I’m wanting all of the content to show up on mobile (without the need to cliick to expand to see the content). The blog post shows up on desktop on the home page (https://manoatours.com/).

Thanks for your help and I look forward to hearing from you!
    Cheers

  • Thank you for further explaining that. I checked your site on various phones and found that on phones with a larger or wider screen, the full post is displayed as expected. However, on smaller screens, the theme condenses the view to just the title for a streamlined mobile experience. This behavior is by design for the mobile version of the theme you’re currently using.

That said, if you’re keen on having all of the content show up without the need to click to expand, there are a couple of ways we might be able to help.

We can look into whether it’s possible to adjust this behavior using custom CSS. Please note that custom CSS is a feature available to users on the Premium plan and higher. If you consider upgrading, I’d be more than happy to assist you further with this.

Another option would be to explore different themes that might display full blog content on mobile by default. We have a wide range of mobile-responsive themes, and I’m sure you can find one that aligns with your preferences.

I’m here to help every step of the way, so please let me know how you’d like to proceed.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Are you able to please suggest a few different mobile responsive themes that would allow for the blog post on the home page to display fully on all mobile devices, even those with smaller screens?

    Thank You!

  • Hi there,

I would say almost any other theme will show the full post, this is the only one I know of currently that does this.

Also, if I can ask, I noticed that your homepage is a single blog post. Out of curiosity, are you trying to show blog posts (generally speaking) on the homepage? Or is it the case that you are using the blog post for this theme because that is what gets you the design with the slideshow?

The reason I ask is because it is actually possible to create a similar layout on your site using a custom homepage (one that you could set up to have a similar layout to the blog post serving as your homepage now) and this would allow you to stick with your current theme, but have a homepage that does not condense down to the title-only on mobile.

We actually show this in greater detail in our recent webinar here:

In that webinar, we show how to add a static “call to action” section at the top of the page, but you could easily set up your homepage to use our Post Carousel Block, which is a blog post “slideshow” similar to what is shown on your site now, but one that you can add to any page you wish… you would not be limited to using only what is built into this theme.

The Post Carousel block allows you to pick a set of posts, pages, projects, or testimonials based on category, tags, or author, and display them in a slideshow. Inserting a Post Carousel Block To add a Post Carousel block, click on the + block inserter icon to open the block library and select the Post Carousel block. Alternatively, you can type /carousel on a new line and press Enter

By building a custom homepage you can stick with this theme (and have the mobile experience you want on your homepage) or if you wish you can explore any of our other themes here: https://wordpress.com/themes/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
