blog post text bleeding behind right hand column
-
hi there, i am using the theme shocking blue green with my blog on wordpress.com. am fairly new so this may be a “duh” issue. i started a few days ago, and up until a few minutes ago, all was well. now, after publishing a post and when viewing the site, the text of a post is bleeding behind the right hand column, so part of the text of all posts is hidden behind the right hand column where all widgets are. any idea as to how to correct?
thanks in advance for your help

We need a link to your blog to help. And consider linking it to your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forum.

hah, had not thought of that, just checked on firefox, and indeed looks good. still on safari i get the same bleeding and hiding of part of the text. puzzling. any ideas out there? safari incompatibility i do not know about?

Hmm – I don’t see a problem in FF but there is definitely a problem in IE. The sidebar is misplaced – too high and too far to the left, overlapping the text – and the text is HUGE.
Are you posting from Word by any chance? If so, check the FAQ on why not to use it. And if you are, you are going to want to clean up the code.

no, am not posting from word.. posting from the wordpress.com interface directly, writing up the post there. have not checked ie. problem in safari for sure. firefox seems to be perfect. very strange. any other ideas?

I wonder if there is an open tag somewhere. When I look at the single post page, the sidebar goes back down to a reasonable size.
I’m not familiar with the theme – is it normal that the first post is in darker font that the ones below it?

good point, i will look at my last post and see if there is something in there that makes the entire page act up. will let you know.

went over each post, made sure there was no crazy/bizarre code, added a new post as of a few minutes ago, from the wordpress interface, not from word… and still get that issue when viewing my blog on either safari or ie. still looks great on ff… bleeding of text behind the right handside bar, and some of the font looks big and bizarre. i am stomped. just don’t know what’s going on??? any ideas?

I don’t know what else to tell you. What I do notice is that in IE, the text of each succeeding post as I go down the page gets larger.
Go to settings > writing and make sure you have the box checked next to “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” That should fix things going forward – but may not fix the back things.

thanks vivianpaige, indeed did not change the previous posts. have logged in an email with wordpress.com’s support on this.

update: i have changed the # of posts on one page from 10 to 5, and now there is no more bleeding of post texts behind the right hand side widget column in safari and ie. the font look still a tad off but at least the bleeding is gone. still looks perfect in ff. very mysterious indeed.

If that cleared up the problem, then the issue is in one of those posts that moved off the front page.
