Blog Posts aren’t shown the way I want them to.
-
Hey!
I would like the posts I publish on the ‘blog’ page to be displayed on that page only with their title, image and the short abstract. Then, when you click on the article, it leads you to the full version.
Right now for some reason the whole article with the whole text length is already displayed on the blog page, which doesn’t make it comfortable at all to scroll through my blog to gain an overview, it’s just not nice right now, but I couldn’t find anywhere a hint on how to change that.
Please, can you help me with that?
Thanks a lot.
Sincerely. -
Hello there,
Can you share the website in question so I can have a look?
Generally though in your themes Customizer there are options to choose how you want your blog to look. I suggest you look for an option called “Post Settings” or “Blog” or something of the sort and see what settings you have available.

Hey, sure, my website is carolaschmude.wordpress.com
I just tried to change the blog feed to show only summary and not the full text, but even after changing that setting and saving the changes it’s displayed the same stupid way as before…
thx a lot for your help in advance :) -
Hello, thank you for replying
Did you revert the change you made to only show summary? Because of caching the changes might’ve taken effect but you were being showed a saved version of the site that didn’t have the changes.
Also can you tell me what theme you are using?
-
Well I now have updated the settings about blog feed and summary and stuff once again, then logged out and in but it’s still the same, which doesn’t make sense as I have changed it already…? I am using the “Hever” theme.
thank you! -
Sorry for the late reply, I was setting up a test site to see what was causing the issue.
I noticed that by changing the “Post page” option in the Reading Settings to the default “-Select-” option and instead of your actual blog page, it will display the posts how you want them.
Please let me know if this fixes your issue.

Hey, yes, I did that and then my posts somehow got lost completely…
thx for the advices, I think I’m gonna ask someone at wordpress’ staff to help me… or I try another theme, dunno. -
Hi there @carolaschmude and @luanluta996 You should be able to achieve what you want by inserting a More Tag or Block directly in your Post.
Since I don’t know which Editor you are writing in, here’s links to both the instructions for the Classic Editor and the WordPress Editor (aka Block Editor):
Classic Editor: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/more-block/2/
WordPress Editor: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/more-block/
Post back here if you have any other question about this.

@carolaschmude,

Hi. Actually, the feed settings options at Reading Settings in WP-Admin, or at Writing Settings in Calypso, that you evidently refer to don’t affect how your posts display on the blog page; they only affect how they display in feeds and in emails sent automatically to subscribers.
On some themes there is an option at Customize, typically at Content Options > Blog display (as suggested by @uanluta9960, that allows one to choose to display either full posts or excerpts on the blog page and archives pages. However, the Hever theme doesn’t have such a one-click option. Therefore the More Tag / More Block options suggested by @justjennifer is the best available workaround on that particular theme.
