Blog Posts not appearing on Tag searches

Hi Guys, So, here’s the problem. For a few of my last posts, I have noticed that my blog posts don’t appear in the right tag search. This has been happening for at least four of my posts. I have checked the tags that I added in my post but it doesn’t appear.
Please suggest what could be the problem here.

    thanks.

  • Hi there,

Your posts aren’t appearing in tag search because you’re using too many.

If you use more than 15 tags and categories combined on a post, the post won’t appear in tag listings. This is to prevent people using a bunch of irrelevant tags on their posts to drive more traffic to their sites.

If you reduce the number of categories and tags, your posts will start appearing in tag searches again. Try to stick to just the most relevant tags to the specific post’s content – the 15 is a limit, nor a target :)

    Hi Kokkieh,

Thank you so much for your response.

I realised how I was using too many tags and when counted with the categories, the total number was going beyond 15, so I have changed that wherever needed.

However, there are still some tags where my posts are not showing. For example, the “Henry James” tag has not so many updates on a regular basis and when I am checking, my blog post dated June 2, 2021, isn’t appearing even after reducing the number of tags.

“Henry James” tag search link – https://wordpress.com/tag/henry-james
    Mentioned blog link – https://alliamthinking.wordpress.com/2021/06/02/the-portrait-of-a-lady-book-review/

Am I doing something wrong again, do you think you can help me understand this :( ??

    thanks in advance..

  • Hi! Fixing your tag and category count will work for new posts going forward.

That particular post has another issue: editing an old post and changing its date will not put it back in the reader. But it will break old links and any existing SEO, so I’d recommend against that.

If you want to update an older post, edit the post and add the update, but keep the same date. And if you want to announce the changes, try creating a new post, mentioning the updates and why it was updated (basically make the update its own story) then link to the older post.

    Good luck!

    Ok.. okay, got it.
I tried to change the date since this post was deleted initially and while trying to restore the post, it was publishing on the present date. I tried to post it on a back date but I guess that messed up the old link and SEO. Will avoid such shenanigans going forward.

Anyways, thanks for explaining, you guys have been really helpful. :)

    Have a nice day!
