Blog privacy settings vs. Posting privacy settings
-
I’ve created a blog that is only to be used by those I allow, so it’s set to private. However, I’m confused as to how I should set teh Visibility settings on my postings? Is public only visible to those users I allow or visible to all as I post? I’ve set my postings to password required but I don’t really want that setting. Private is only visible to the administrator and editors. I like WordPress, but I must say the instructions are not very clear! Does anyone know the answer to my question?

Yes, public will only be visible to the viewers you allow. The settings under settings > privacy override everything else.
If someone who is not a user goes to your blog they will see a warning that the blog is private and there will be a place where they have to enter a username and password (just like when you sign into your blog) and if they are not a user on your blog, they will not be able to get in.
