Blog Privacy vs. Post Privacy Issues

    Hi.

    I’m new here!!!

I created a personal blog that I’m keeping private. I do want certain people to read/post comments to it though. I selected the “allow certain people access” or whatever in the Blog Privacy section and have WordPress user names in it.

Here’s my question/problem: What do I select when I post entries to my blog? Right now, I’m selecting “private” in the posting section. I just learned though that when my friends login to my blog, they don’t see the posts. Do I need to make the posts public? If so, will that allow *just* my friends to see the posts? I’m scared that changing that to public will allow other people to see the posts. Is that even logical? I suspect not.

As you can tell, I’m confused about the difference between the two. Also, there’s no subsection under Support about Blog privacy section about postings.

Thanks in advance for helping me figure out how to let my friends read my posts to the blog.

Another ?: is there a way to let my friends know when I’ve posted something new?

I’m looking forward to my new adventures in blogging!

    Thanks again!

    Dawn

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Making posts “private” means “for my eyes only”. Only YOU can see them when YOU are logged in, no one else. Your blog is private, and as long as you don’t change your settings, only the selected users can see your posts. To check: just write a test post, publish it, log out and try to view it. You will not be able to see it.

Selecting the ‘private’ option means the post will be visible to you, and only to you.

If you select the password-protect option, it’ll prompt you for a password. People visiting a public blog see only the titles of password-protected posts, followed by a box asking for the password to read the post.

If you’ve protected your blog as a whole, there is no need to protect individual posts. Only the users you’ve permitted will be able to read them, don’t worry. Go to your posts page, hit ‘quick edit’ on each post you want your friends to read, and uncheck the private post option.

And your friends can know when you’ve posted if they use blog surfer. Please read the support article: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-surfer/

    Happy blogging.

If you have properly Invited your friends to see your blog, which is properly set as Private, you do not have to make the individual posts private as well. The level of privacy of a post can never be less than the level of privacy of the blog, but it CAN be more.

The problem is, http://dawnerth.wordpress.com/ is not set to Private. Do that following the instructions here:
