Blog redesign
-
I built this blog 2 years ago but cannot figure out how to restructure the site with a new blog. Do I have to create a parent site then create a new page for my new blog. I assume that the top level needs to be created first?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
Just to check, were you wanting to add a new blog post that’ll appear at the top of the page when going to http://turningdieselintomemories.blog/ ?
If so, then just head to Posts > All Posts > Add New Post and feel free to start writing! When you’ve completed your post and have published it, it will automatically appear right at the top of http://turningdieselintomemories.blog/ above the blog posts which are there now.
If you’re intending to go for a more ‘full’ redesign (changing the layout/colour scheme/more), then if you’d like to let us know what you’re going for we’re happy to point you in the right direction. Whether or not you’d need to create something like a static front page somewhat depends on what you’re planning with the redesign.
For example, were you thinking of displaying your blog posts as summaries when visitors first get to http://turningdieselintomemories.blog/ so that they can choose a blog post to read?

G’Day
Thank you for the prompt response. As the new blog is an adventure in a new country entitled ‘In Search of Quetzals’ I was thinking that I should turn my blog into a site (entitled David Woolcock Wildlife Photography – DavidWoolcockWildlifePhototgraphy(?)) with a top level bio page of who I am then below that a hierarchal series of blogs. For this I have no experience so will need some help. Does this make sense? My business life was in working in SAP which did not give me any skill sets on web based tools but I love the concept of sharing stories with friends. I assume that the top level needs to be built first then the old blog (Turning Diesel Into Memories) needs to be linked before I can start the new Blog (In Search of Quetzals) can be built. Writing the Blog & adding Posts I can do. It is how to get that started that I struggle with. Simplisticly, I thought just creating a new page would achieve this but I don’t think it is that simple. Any advice would be most welcome.
cheers

Thank you for the response. It was about giving my readers an opportunity to read a new story. I suppose I was a bit confused that the name TurningDieselIntoMemories would still be there when the new story was titled “In Search of Quetzals”.
My journey to this point has been a challenge as I developed altitude sickness in Costa Rica and became very ill. I am still in hospital here but wanted to publish this new story for my friends who don’t know what has happened to me. It may just be a case of creating a new post to tell the story then once I am discharged work on creating a proper site which would include a picture gallery plus the blogs.
cheers

One option would be to create a new site, with a new plan and domain, and add you new posts to that new site. I checked, and the DavidWoolcockWildlifePhototgraphy.com domain is available to register. DavidWoolcockWildlifePhototgraphy.blog is also.
The other option would be to use the existing site and get a new domain name for it, and then create and assign a new category to your new posts, and then add those two categories to the menu on your site so that anyone clicking on them would see only the posts in that category. I see that you have all of your existing posts assigned to the 2021_TDIM category now. You can then create a new front page for the site and add your bio information to it, and use the Query Loop Block below the bio information, and set it to show perhaps 3 or 4 posts from the new category.
If you choose to create a second site for your new adventure with a new domain, you can also create the same sort of front page, with the bio and Query Loop Block on it.
You can most certainly create a new post on your existing site and publish it letting your visitors know about your upcoming new adventure. That actually sounds like a great idea.
As always, we are here and happy to help. Also, don’t forget that you have access to Live Chat Support M-F where we can help you on questions and issues in a more real-time way.
