Blog reverted to older version second time in 12 hours
-
Hi, I am a potato industry consultant and I used WordPress a few years ago for a dedicated blog with great success. I started another blog again on Friday. The blog is meant to be used as information site about the international potato industry – several thousand people in my mailing list around the world will be invited to visit and follow the blog. BUT for the second time the past twelve hours I lost more than half of the data that I entered and template changes that I made during many long hours of work. The blog reverted to data and a template current about 24 hours ago. I have no clue why or what happened – certainly nothing out of the ordinary was done on my end. The first glitch happened around 11pm my time last night but the blog was back and up to date 8 hours later. An hour ago the same thing happened right after I completed a new post. It is incredibly important for me to have stable environment given my goal to invite roughly 8,000 industry specialists globally to join/follow the blog? I am sure that I did not do anything weird or whatever to bring this on. What can I do?? Can a staff member of WordPress please take care of this and try to find a reason for the instability of my blog? I just can’t keep it going if this is going to be a regular occurrence as any reasonable person would understand.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com sells custom design upgrades. They allow us to “preview” change that do not actually display on the blog unless we purchase the upgrade.
If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade. All of these functions can be accessed from your dashboard – without loading the custom design tools – no upgrade required.
Appearance > Header
Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > GeneralIf you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.
To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

Thank you for taking the time to try and address my problem. It does not solve it at all though. The design problem is not an issue at all. I adhered to all the rules for the creation of a free site. I lost 25 of 40 posts that I made since Saturday – that is my main issue. Whenever this happened the design went out the door as well earlier today and last night. The posts appear on the main page of my admin section, but when I click on those links I get a message that the post/s can not be found with a suggestion that it might be deleted. I would appreciate it if a WP technical person can help me with this? Can you please forward it for me? Thanks again for your effort.

My problem is then that it is near impossible to re-create the 25 posts that obviously got lost along the line this afternoon and last night. I repeat – after the glitch last night, all the posts and the design were back to normal after 8 hours. I am not biting my nails to see if this afternoon’s glitch might also be temporary and that the site will return to normal/updated again. Problem is that I can not work in an unstable situation like this?

Apologies: The sentence in my last post above starting with “I am not biting my nails…” should read “I am now biting my nails…”

Please delete nothing as this is now a known issue and we are tagging threads like these for Staff. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

@lukie2014
There are three HUGE redundant server farms in three different locations and it seems like what’s going on is those servers are not in synch. Do not delete anything and don’t get worked up about this because Staff will fix this and restore the data. -
We have had an issue with duplicate blogs being created for some of our users. In your case, it looks like you had different content on the two blogs, so I have merged that content and everything should be okay now. Please clear your browser cache and see if everything looks okay now.

Thanks a million jackiedana and timethief – Greatly appreciate your help! Just hope this will not be a regular occurrence?

Our developers are trying to determine why duplicate blogs sometimes get created, and we hope it’s resolved soon.
