Blog rings — opinions please
-
Someone recommended a weaving blog ring (Weave Ring?) to me as a way to publicize my blog, but research on the WP forum revealed that I would have to add html code to a page of my blog. I am reluctant to do that b/c my blog is working fine now and I don’t want to screw it up, but I also don’t want to miss a good opportunity. What does the forum think? TIA

I think blog rings are over. It’s not really 1995 anymore. How many hits could they possibly give you, compared to hosting a blog carnival or reaching out to bloggers in your field outside their ring?

You cannot alter the underlying theme files of a blog here since we all share the same files; any change you make would effect everyone else.
It would have to be put into a text widget.

@rain-Actually, the fiber rings (knitting, weaving, spinning, etc.) are still in 1995. :)
@buyathread-As long as the ring administrator is a good one and the ring is active, being in a ring will certainly bring you traffic. It’s when people don’t know how to put their ring code in their sidebar or the ring is broken because the blogger didn’t keep up with the ring TOU or that the ring is poorly maintained that the trouble begins. Just sayin’…

@raincoaster (we’re not on a first name basis yet)- I don’t know what a “blog carnival” is, let alone how to host one.
@justjennifer – speaking for myself, I’m in 1895 : )
The blog ring sounded like an efficient way to reach other fiber artists (some of the BBs don’t permit blog promotion), but now I think that it’s not worth the headaches. Thanks, all, glad I asked FIRST.
