blog roll links showing ‘updated’

Hi
I’ve tried to see if anyone else has asked this but no luck. I would like the links in my blog roll to have a little ‘updated’ message beside them when the blog owner has posted a new post/comment. I’ve seen this in a TypePad blog – can it be done in WordPress?

It can be done in WordPress by editing the alt text or the text in the Links widget. You would have to go in and edit it by hand, though.
EG link http://raincoaster.com name raincoaster, newest version, alt text raincoaster UPDATED

thank you, raincoaster, (love the pic of the pier, btw) but if I go into the Links widget it tells me there is no option to edit it. when you say edit do you mean to:

Not the links widget – the link itself. Go to manage>links and click on the name, which brings up the edit link window. In the first field (name), type the text you want, ie, raincoaster-UPDATED, and that’s what will show in the links widget.

maybe I’m being a bit thick here – but does that mean I have to put ‘updated’ by hand – I was thinking more that it would be automatic!
I have investigataed blogrolling who say you can do this but I can’t get the code to display in my text widget. I tried to use RSS, not javascript, but all I get is the link and not the actual blog roll! This is the text I’m putting in to the widget …

OK – made it work but am limited to 20 links – that’s a bit short for a blogroll – is that why some blogs separate them out into shorter lists?

Yes, you have to put in updated by hand. There is no other way to do it.
You don’t put RSS code in a text widget – you put it in an RSS widget.
And you shouldn’t be limited to 20 links. I’ve got way more than that.

OK, I’ve fixed the RSS widget thing, but it still only gives me a max of 20 links. Is it my theme – K2-Lite – that limits this? -

Wait – the RSS widget has a configuration to show the number of items, the maximum of which is 20. That’s a limitation of the widget.
There is no limit on the links widget – and as you can see, I have a lot more than 20 on mine. If you are running up against this, then you might want to contact support.
