Blog set up issue – set up under another user

  • Unknown's avatar

My computer was logged into another blog under someone else’s username when I bought my domain with wordpress. Now that site is under that users (whom I do not know) and I need to have my blog transferred to my username. I need to actually speak to someone about this.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

As you don’t provide the address of the site I can’t even begin to help you with this, but based on what you said there is nothing we can do. We see the owner of a site as the username who registered it, and the owner of an upgrade as the username who bought it, period. Only that person can transfer ownership of the site to someone else, and we can’t transfer ownership of a site based on your claim that you accidentally registered it under the username of someone you don’t know.

How was someone you don’t know logged into their WordPress.com account using your computer?

I would think you could transfer the blog/domain to me, as I’m the one who registered and paid for the name. I was viewing someone’s private blog under a direct sales company where they passed along the username and password. The site I was viewing was 30 days of healthy living. If I was the one to register the domain name under my name and paid for with my credit card info then why can’t it be transferred to my username? As this is a public forum I don’t feel comfortable posting usernames etc. I find it odd there is no personal help center.

As you can see from my comment above (happyhealth30) was what was logged into WordPress. It’s quite a mess. My username is justfinishstrong1

The address of the site is 30daysofhealthyliving

  • If you are able to log in as the account you had used to create the site, then you can transfer it to a different account. You can find instructions to do that here:

Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account

However, the site 30daysofhealthyliving.wordpress.com does not have any upgrades attached to it, so I don’t know what you paid for.

If you’re actually speaking of the site, justfinishstrong.wordpress.com, which has a Personal Plan and custom domain, you can follow these instructions to transfer the domain, and then transfer the site after that:

Transfer a Domain to Another WordPress.com Account

I would think you could transfer the blog/domain to me, as I’m the one who registered and paid for the name.

As I said above, we see the owner as the username who registered the domain/bought the upgrade. We have no way of knowing if the person who paid was logged into the wrong account – one would hope that in this day and age people know better than to give their login credentials to others.

And in the case of domains we quite literally can’t transfer the domain. As in there exists no button for me to do that. That’s because there are incredibly strict regulations governing ownership, and ONLY someone logged in as the username who registered the domain can transfer it. We don’t have any back door which would allow us to do that for you, as doing that would cause us to instantly lose our accreditation as a domain registrar, meaning we can’t sell domains to anyone ever again.

I believe I have taken the necessary actions to transfer the domain name to username justfinishstrong1. Could you check on your end and see if I did it correctly? Meaning the site http://www.justfinishstrong.com is now under username justfinishstrong1 instead of happyhealth30? Thanks

Another question. Although the domain and site is now transferred to justfinishstrong1, it is still under username happyhealth30 under my sites, and she is still an admin. How do I remove her as admin and from the my sites view?

When I go to remove @happyhealth30 as an admin I get that there was an error.

  • Okay, you’ve correctly transferred the domain to @justfinishstrong1, but the site itself still belongs to @happyhealth30

Please again log in as happyhealth30, and go to this link:

    https://justfinishstrong.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs

On that page you should see a Transfer Blog option. Click that to transfer the site itself to your correct username. That will also remove happyhealth30 as a user on the site.

Ok, I did that and it said “you have a domain upgrade, customer support will contact you shortly”

  • As yo had already transferred the domain that should have automatically transferred your site, but it is done now. justfinishstrong1 is now the owner of the site and all its upgrades.

At the moment automatic renewal is deactivated for that site’s upgrades, as payment info isn’t transferred when an upgrade is. You can activate automatic renewal by going to the Purchases page and adding payment information to your plan there:
