In my blog stats, I see I have new followers (10+) that have signed up, many over night, yet my total remains the same. Yesterday I sat at 410 Followers, still while people signed up, then in one fell swoop, the total hit 440. Is there some problem with my stats calculator? The blog I’m asking about is mumstheword.wordpress.com and my email is (email visible only to moderators and staff). Please advise, and thank you.

Hi again – I count 37 new followers in the past 24 hours. I’m pretty sure few if any are being counted in my blog stat total.
What gives? Help! (please …)

Hi Andie – I see 445 blog followers in your Site Stats:
https://andieduncan.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats&blog=51126993&blog_subscribersThat’s the number reflected in your subscription widget. Note that pending and comment followers are not counted.

Ok … could you explain why there a 30 follower jump within 10 minutes yesterday? And why, when I’m instantly notified of a new follower (not a comment), the total doesn’t change? Are your stats able to see if I’ve lost a chunk of followers over the past 2 days? That info would be very helpful to have. THanks!

Hi Andie – I don’t immediately see anything in your stats that would explain why you got so many followers yesterday, but that’s a good thing! I don’t know why the count doesn’t change when you receive a notification of a new follower. Next time this happens, try clearing your browser cache and if the count doesn’t update, let me know.
We did have a recent issue with follower counts displaying incorrectly. I believe this was resolved, though, before you report having noticed this.
There isn’t anywhere to look to see if you’ve been unfollowed, but you can keep track of your follower count and individual followers here:

Ok, thanks for your thoughtful answer! Not to beat this to death, but stay with me … at 7:45 when I posted the first thread of this conversation, I had 442 followers. Now, over 7 hours later, my “Followers” list shows that I’ve acquired 7 more followers in that time, however the TOTAL says 445. While you say there’s no place where I can look to see if I’ve been unfollowed, are YOU able to see it anywhere?
So unless I’ve suddenly alienated a whack of readers (can’t imagine how?), there must be something wrong with the counter.
Thoughts? (And sorry again … dog with a bone.)

Ok, it just happened again. I got “ding-ed” to find that I have a new follower, Elizabeth. But my “Total” count remains at 444.
Something’s definitely up.

Sorry, that’s 445 (my homepage says 444, including me!) Still, the numbers don’t add up.

To clarify, my total was 445 before and after Elizabeth followed me 2 minutes ago. 444 was what my home page said.

Hi Andie – I’m Elizabeth. ;) I was testing this. You’re right, it looks like your count isn’t updating promptly. I think this is related to the recent bug we had with follower counts and I’ve reported it to the team that worked on this. However, your new followers are still following you – this is a display issue only and has to do with the old number cacheing for awhile.
