Blog Stats and Posts
-
I have a quick question. I want to get a more accurate read on what posts are being read. I split the post so people have to continue reading. Does WordPress only record a stat for a particular post if the actual post is selected or can it record a stat for the post if they select “continue reading?” I hope that makes sense.

WordPress counts page views. What that means:
Scenario 1
someone lands on the front page of your blog = 1 page view
someone clicks through to continue reading = 1 page view
total page views = 2Scenario 2
someone lands on the front page of your blog = 1 page view
someone decides they don’t feel like continuing to read = 0 page views
total page views = 1Scenario 3
someone lands on a post page by finding it via Blog Surfer, Tag Surfer, a feed reader, a search engine result, etc. = 1 view
someone leaves the blog after reading that one post in its entirety = 0 page views
total page views = 1A bit long-winded, but does it make sense?

As we understand it, wordpress makes a count every time anything on your blog is viewed. That’s what’s in the graph. The system counts a post view anytime someone clicks through to read the rest of the post or comes into your blog via a link or a search engine and lands on one of your Posts.
Hope this helps,
