Blog Subscribers
-
I have WordPress, and am using the MailChip widget. I am new to blogging, and I need some help. I have no idea how many subscribers I have, and I was told people are not getting alerts when I have a new post. Am I not using the widget correctly, or do I need to switch to a different widget? Also, if I do need to switch, will I loose my current subscribers? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey michelehopkins,
You seem confused between the WordPress.com blog subscribers and the MailChimp subscribers.
Any user can follow a WordPress.com blog by clicking on the follow button shown at the bottom-right corner to receive an email every time you write a new post.
But when you use the third party services like MailChimp and Aweber, you collect email addresses and it requires the manual action to send an email to them.
Whenever someone subscribes through your MailChimp widget, it gets added to your MailChimp list. You can check the total number of subscribers by logging in to your MailChimp account.
You don’t need any service or a widget.

Hi there,
What is the address of the site you need help with? The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites on WordPress.com.
If you have a site using the open source WordPress.org software, note that that software does not come with a subscription option built in. And unless you’re using a MailChimp plugin that specifically integrates with the WordPress software in that way, publishing a new post will not automatically cause MailChimp to send out notifications – most people use MailChimp to manually send out newsletters to notify subscribers of new posts.
If you want an email subscription service that automatically sends out email notifications each time you publish a new post instead, you need to use a service that specifically does that, like, for example, the Jetpack plugin which uses WordPress.com’s email subscription service.
