Blog subscription shortcode
-
I have a page on my blog that included all the different ways to subscribe or follow the blog. I discovered this morning that nothing was working anymore. The blog subscription shortcode didn’t work. Neither did the logo/links to Twitter and Facebook. I can fix the latter with just direct links but the shortcode won’t work at all.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ve removed the Twitter and Facebook logo/links that stopped working or even showing on the page and replaced them with just normal links.

Hi windwhistle – The subscription shortcode is displaying for me now on that page. Did you remove and add it again?
Did you do the cookie/cache dance? If it’s still not displaying for you, please take a screenshot of what you are seeing and upload it to your media library.
-
windwhistle – please try justjennifers advice with your cache and cookies. Instructions are available in this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
Let us know if that does the trick.

Did the cookie/cache dance and nothing changed. Yesterday I did remove and then restore the short code, but nothing changed.
Currently this is what I see:

Hi again, Staff can see that dashboard link, but forum volunteers cannot. Please be patient while they get back to you. :)

Hmm. Interesting. Okay, I won’t mess with it anymore until I hear from them, although it pains me to have a page up that isn’t working properly.

Hi –
The follow shortcode is working. Here’s what I see when I take a look: https://cloudup.com/cQXgc7Nv_8i
After clicking on Follow, I get the appropriate “manage” message: https://cloudup.com/cGoNRpa0CgP
If what you see doesn’t match my screen shots, please take a look via an incognito browser tab.
Another option available for this purpose is the social icons widget: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/social-media-icons-widget/
Unrelated: I didn’t know there was a Katmai bear cam! This has made my day!

Viewed incognito on Chrome browser, this is what I see:
https://piedtype.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=51629But belatedly it occurred to me to check via a different browser (I know I should always do that). Using Firefox, I see what you see. So I guess that means it’s a Chrome problem. And it’s probably something I did when they recently changed their interface for managing cookies. Yes, I know about the widget, but I wanted all the subscribe/follow options in one place. Sorry to have wasted your time on this.
(Glad you like the bear cam. It’s my favorite.)

Good morning :)
So I guess that means it’s a Chrome problem
Which version of Chrome are you using? If you head over to supportdetails.com it will tell you. I’m curious because I also used Chrome for the screen shot that I shared.
Do you have any browser extensions enabled?
-
I’m using Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit) on a MacBook Pro with MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.5. I have a number of Chrome extensions enabled but no new ones in recent months.
-
Does disabling the extensions make a difference in how the follow blog shortcode displays?
-
Disabled all the extensions and then enabled them again one by one. Apparently AdBlock Version: 3.14.0 was the culprit. How annoying! I hope AdBlock Plus, which I also run, can do the job by itself.
Thanks for all your help, Liz, especially since this turned out not to be a WP problem. Have a nice weekend.
