Blog suddenly changed color, very unhappy
-
My blog links and title went from a nice blue to an ugly brown maroon. After spending now 21 minutes trying to use the iPad and laptop, it looked to be fixed (the “change color” options showed the right color but my blog was still messed up.
Now it finally changed, I shut down the laptop (that’s 40 minutes of my time now) and I go to the iPad, it’s now the wrong color again.
Not happy.
I have not touched the “theme options” at all, btw.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I am seeing the blue color on your site on my laptop and in my iPhone. Can you try clearing the cache on your iPad (Settings > Safari) and then refresh Safari on your iPad and see if the colors are correct?
-
Hi, yes now it’s the new color I chose. It lost the original color I had though. I understand why I’m supposed to clear the cache; but every time something goes wrong I am told to either switch browsers or clear the cache. It loses many of my saved passwords and it’s sort of unfortunate that WP has these glitches that can’t just be fixed.
The problem occurred on my laptop as well.
I appreciate the response though. I don’t think anything can be done now, it lost the original color. If I ever get it back, I’ll write down the code numbers for it.

Those are really good first troubleshooting steps in cases where the cause of the issue might not be apparent at first. Usually, providing good details about the problem and mentioning if you’ve already tried clearing browser cache would help things go along faster. :)

I’m having the exact same problem now. I change the color (it came out too light the first and only time it worked) and it looks fine in the preview, but it does not change on my blog.
-
Hi @design simply. Thanks for the response; I did not clear the cache for this one.
If I seem grumpy it’s because this is just one of half a dozen glitches that has come up in the past month. I don’t have time to post to the forum every one, so I just stay away until it looks like someone’s fixed the problem. 90 – 95% of the time I find other people are complaining about the same issue, so I just wait. And it’s clearly not on my end.
I think this stuff happens most often when designs or general website stuff is changed on WP.

Hi there,
Why don’t you have your browser set up to automatically clear your browser cache and cookies when you log off the internet? I have mine set up that way and never have such issues. Also are you using an IE browser? -

Sorry for the trouble!
We did make an update to colors as part of an effort to start adding in free color palettes for more themes — and a couple themes had colors settings changed in the process, and I’m working to help track those down and make sure everything gets put back to normal or help in any way I can.
I looked in your blog settings and found that #a5bdde was the previous blue setting you had for links. I looked at the Appearance > Theme Options > Accent Color setting for your blog (Chateau theme) and I see that you’re using #afcbf1 now, which is just a bit lighter blue. If you’d like to go back to the exact same color before, try adding #a5bdde as the accent color on the theme options page. And let me know if you need anything else!

Hi Design Simply –
Thanks for the great response, I copied the color code unfortunately now it won’t allow me to change it. When I click on Color I get a black translucent screen that tells me I have to pay for it (never saw this before when I was changing colors around).
-
You’re in the wrong spot. Go to Appearance > Theme Options and look for the “Accent Color” setting.
-
UGH, it went back to red when I did that. I pasted in the color you gave me, it looked correct. Then I hit save, and back to accent color it shows red. It is not saving my choice.
-
It now will not change at all. I scroll on the color wheel, and it does not change. Someone PLEASE fix this. I hate the red.
-
Okay, I switched themes then switched back. That worked, although I’m not crazy about this color, I won’t change it because I’m afraid that it will just make matters worse.
-
Okay, the color’s not bad now but if it was a glitch please let me know (I saw some other bloggers asked similar questions) so I know when I can adjust it again.
Thanks for the responses, @designsimply I’m impressed you could tell what color I WAS using. That’s quite something.
-
UGH, it went back to red when I did that.
I just updated it on your blog and it worked for me. You have to go to Appearance > Theme Options (not the colors panel) to change it. Is that what you did before? Sorry it’s confusing!
-
I also would like to add that I appreciate your feedback about the colors and things like this will definitely be taken into account for future updates. At WordPress.com, we try to move things forward, update, and stay innovative with our tools despite our large user base. It’s a good challenge to make those things work together, and sometimes bugs pop up, but we are always here to help fix them when they happen! We’re very dedicated to good support.

Hi DS thanks so much for your help, I’m glad to know it’s serving a larger purpose as well!
It’s funny, the first time I wanted to change colors I went to Appearance – Themes – Colors. It DID let me change the color, without asking for money. But it at some point defaulted back. After I posted the forum question, it would not allow me to adjust the color.
So as was suggested, I tried Appearance – Theme Options – Accent Color. None of the “buttons” responded to me; in other words, I could click on them but nothing changed. I then went to the link (the one after Default Color) and to that “color wheel”. I could scroll around the wheel but the red color stubbornly stayed exactly the same.
After I switched Themes then switched back to Chateau, it worked. But I wouldn’t want to do that all the time because when I switch themes it normally loses more than half my Widgets and it’s very hard to get them back. This time I got lucky; nothing was lost.

ps Just as a side note (and to give some feedback), it would be GREAT if WordPress could notify us of any changes before they happen. When I go to use my blog and something totally wacky happens, then later I find out something’s been changed that ruins my blogging experience, it does not make me happy; it makes me extremely frustrated.
I know you guys are very innovative and devoted to making users happy; but the glitches that come along with the changes tend to paralyze my blog. For example we had to beg to get the Comments I Made back.
Now the elimination of the ability to go directly to my friend’s blogs. It is pretty hard on the community spirit and it makes me unhappy that all the information and links I put on my Earth Sciencey blog might now be lost because of that.
But again, if (perhaps on the WordPress updates blog, which I would happily subscribe to) if it could be announced of the change before it happened, I could then understand when a baffling and sudden change shows up on my blog so I don’t spend hours trying to chase down what happened, and if it’s from our computer or what.
I might add that I’m hoping to PAY for extra WP services, but I have to know it will be workable for what I prefer. I think I’ve heard this echoed from other users as well.
Cheers, thanks again for the help.

That was our fault! There was a bug letting colors through for a short time, but we found and fixed it as soon as we could. I’m so sorry it caused you trouble!

That’s because an update we made to try to help with widgets! Glad it worked out for you this time!

I have a beta group for Custom Design where I work on giving them a heads up for major changes when I can (and the group helps me with testing new features from time to time). Would you be interested in participating?
I see your point about updates, but it’s not something feasible at the rate we’re making changes. Though, I like the idea a lot and that’s why I started a beta testing group.

Do you mean in the Reader? I believe you can still get to the original but it takes an extra click.

I think you should subscribe! Even though not all updates will get posted there ahead of time, a lot of them do get posted fairly quickly.
