Blog title conflicts with custom header

I am using a custom header in my blog that incorporates the title and tagline of my blog, so obviously I don’t want the the title or tagline displayed above it, as is the default (I use MistyLook if that makes a difference). Suggestions? Right now I simply don’t have a title or tagline, and I know that’s not a good thing.
I am not willing to upgrade to allow CSS modifications. Is there anything at all I can do to avoid this redundancy, other than change my header?

We Volunteers answering questions on this peer support forum need to be able to lay eyes on the blog being referred to and be sure it’s a wordpres.com free hosted blog. That way we do not waste our time providing lengthy answers only to find out the party who posted them has a wordpress.org blog and the answer is not the correct one for the software they are using.

And the second reason is that you’re not asking about something standard, such as how to do links or polls or whatever; you’re asking about a workaround, so I need to see the blog to make sure I’ll work something out that applies. That includes seeing the actual title and tagline: if you want me to show you how to hide something, I must first see that something.

Yay! I see your blog. You have the Misty Look theme. Please try this. Remove all the capital lettering the blog name. The reason why I’m suggesting this is because I have the theme up on my test blog and both the title and tagline are appearing as expected. That means we can try some things to see if we can resolve the issue. What is the tagline you have entered here>

I see. To be honest, I thought this was about something standard: remember, I don’t have access to the CSS – just to the basic (free) WordPress platform. Also, as I mentioned, I didn’t have the title and tagline up, so you still wouldn’t have seen what I want to hide. But, every little bit helps – so I’ve also assigned a title and tagline for you. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Yes I do have the MistyLook theme, as I already mentioned. I have now put in the title and tagline – is there anything you can suggest?

I removed the title and tagline from that same theme on my test blog and the title no longers appears. As you have clicked “hide text” in the custom header uploader the title should not be appearing. That means there’s a technical glitch of some kind and Staff need to “fix” it for you. Here’s the link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

@tt: MistyLook has no Hide Text option. Nicoleblogs had deleted, not hidden, the title.
If you don’t want the title but you do want the feed links, paste this in a text widget:*

PS The numbers I’m giving apply to the way you’ve got the blog now: with title but with no tagline. If you add a tagline too, the height numbers will need to be different.

PS2 The first code creates a white strip that will mask your header. The second will position the image so that it covers the whole title area.

Had to run off yesterday, but wanted to follow up:
Of course, your trick doesn’t work when a browser’s set to display a large minimum font, but if this is my only option, I’ll take it! This isn’t a professional site, anyway.
The main thing here is I didn’t realize you could put markup in the widgets. We didn’t really have to go through all we did above – I can write my own markup. But I thank you anyway, because the end result is the same.
I’m going to leave this unresolved for awhile, in case anyone has any new insight.

It seems nicoleblogs means he / she know how to write html and apparently how to write code for position: absolute.
I don’t understand “…doesn’t work when a browser’s set to display a large minimum font…” Does that mean zooming in with a browser?

Sort of. There’s an option for limiting mimimum displayed font size. Check Safari, for instance: Preferences > Advanced > Universal Access.
I could deal with that by creating a white mask that would expand accordingly, but I don’t think it’s worth the trouble.
